County Officials Seek Talks On Two-Year Road Plan
Caroline County legislators and the Board of Commissioners reviewed a State Roads Commission schedule for two years of road work and want SRC officials to explain priorities. They did not object to six projects but questioned allocations, with a request to meet Sen. Harry Hughes to arrange a discussion with SRC member Les Evans. A key item is a $250,000 Route 318 project through Federalsburg and a $95,000 Gay Street extension in Denton. Other slated jobs include resurfacing Route 313 between Goldsboro and Greensboro and upgrades on Routes 404 and 312.

Pilot Life Insurance Company representative Mr. James D. Bligh presented Wilbur S. Hoppengardner, superintendent of Caroline County schools, with the Award of Merit for the 1962 1963 school year. The award honors an outstanding record in preventing school related accidents and recognizing staff and students. Full House Opens Lions Pony Field in Denton
Denton Athletic Association opened the newly lighted Lions Pony field to a crowd of over two hundred Friday night. The event featured a Federalsburg versus Denton PONY League game and an all star softball finale. The park plans nearly nightly contests, with use by the PONY League, Denton Girls' Softball, and the Denton Recreational Softball League.

International couple to manage Caroline Country Club facilities

Ridgely man named to Caroline County School Board
A. Orrell Saulsbury Jr. of Ridgely was nominated for a five year term on the Caroline County Board of Education, succeeding Calvin D. Lynch who completed a term May 1. Saulsbury, a prominent Ridgely businessman, has served the unexpired term of D. Thompson Swing and completed a full five year term in May 1959. He heads Saulsbury Brothers Frozen Food plant, is active in the Ridgely Methodist Church, and coaches the Ridgely PONY League team. He is married to Norma Danser eau of Bluefield West Virginia and has one son and four daughters, three of whom attend Ridgely School.

State Plans Job Training At Martina
Governor Tawes announced a state program under the Manpower Development and Training Act to train about 200 youths ages 17 to 21 on the Eastern Shore. Martinak State Park is among five sites with training lasting nine weeks from July 1 to August 28. Youths receive 16 dollars per week for carpentry masonry horticulture fire prevention erosion control and wildlife work supervised by the Forests and Parks and Education departments. Interested applicants should visit the Denton Armory on Wednesdays.

Wind whipped flames swept an eight acre barley field Wednesday as Ed Pete Quidas escaped with his combine and pickup after a passing motorist warned him. The blaze, likely sparked by exhaust igniting tinder dry straw, destroyed the crop with an estimated loss of about $300. Preston Volunteer Fire Company responded and saved a tenant house at the field edge.
