Chilean Relief Drives Timely Aid For Thousands In Need

The American Red Cross and partner agencies urge urgent donations to aid Chile after a severe disaster. Relief efforts focus on funds to buy and ship supplies, with programs coordinated by General Alfred Gruenther at the president's request.

REA Co ops Donate Grand Prize For Festival

The three Delmarva electric cooperatives Choptank Greenwood and Accomack Northampton donate a 12 cubic foot freezer with 73 pounds of Delmarvalous Chicken as a grand prize at the 13th Annual Chicken Festival in Selbyville Delaware June 17 18. The prize helps fund a festival serving 28 000 members including chicken growers and processors. Also notes a 1960 family reunion Brown Liden to be held August 14 at Smithville Community House with church readings and historical notes.

Jurisdictional Conference Set for Washington June 15

Sixteen ministers and lay delegates will represent Delaware and the Eastern Shore at the Northeastern Jurisdictional Conference of The Methodist Church in Washington D C June 15 to 19. The session will elect three bishops with possible a fourth. three bishop vacancies arise from retirement of Ledden Newell and Oxnam. Oxnam has led the Washington Area for eight years. The conference may approve boundary changes moving Central Pennsylvania from Washington to Pittsburgh and renaming Pittsburgh as Western Pennsylvania Area. Continued on page 4.

State Trooper Activity During The Past Week

The State Police report covers a week of accidents. June 5 on Route 404 near Denton a Dickerson car with lights out stopped in a traffic lane and was hit in the rear by a Trice vehicle. Dickerson arrested for parking in the travel lane and both cars sustained damage though Trice’s was $400. June 4 near Dover Bridge Major Dewey Lewis’s car ran off road, pole impact. Lewis died two hours after hospitalization and the car was a total loss. June 2 at Sixth and Market Denton Dust allegedly failed to stop for a stop sign, colliding with Edwards’s car. Dust charged with failure to grant right of way. both cars about $300 damage. June 6 on Route 404 Choptank River Bridge scene not finished in excerpt.

1960 Census Shows Increase For Shore

The District Supervisor at the Salisbury Bureau of the Census released the 1960 First Congressional District counts for nine counties led by Cecil with 48346 and Wicomico with 48744. Compared to 1950 figures, Cecil gained about 14000 and Wicomico about 9000, while others rose around 1400.
