Whittemore case: Maryland governor rejects pardon
Maryland Governor Ritchie refuses to commute Richard Reese Whittemore’s death sentence for killing a guard during an escape, despite a 2,500-name petition. Whittemore is set to hang August 13. The piece contrasts Maryland’s action with Chicago’s Durkin sentencing and argues for justice over sentiment in capital cases.

Del Mar Va lands rise in value says Hill
Harvey J Still, executive vice president of the Del Mar Va Eastern Shore Association, told a joint Maryland horticultural meeting that land values in the Del Mar Va Peninsula rose by at least 5 million dollars in nine months. He cited hardening prices, seller's market signs, increased land sales since 1918, and widespread new home seeker and tourist interest. He urged better ferry service at Cape Charles, more Norfolk connection, and expanded Pennsylvania Railroad facilities to boost through traffic and marketing. The movement, he said, has united Delaware Maryland and Virginia and their counties in a common goal.
