Kent and Sussex County Fair Opens July 27
The 40th annual fair in Harrington runs July 27 through August 1 with exhibits racing and entertainment. Over 6,000 entries are in, purses total about $30,000 for two and three year old divisions. Grandstand shows nightly feature The Chordettes Red Foley and Frankie Avalon. Children’s Day is July 28 with free admission for school kids. Governor Boggs and Governor Tawes visit. livestock parade Thursday at 7 p.m. Prell's Broadway Shows perform on the Midway all week.

Goldsboro Man Killed in Maryland Delaware Weekend Crashes
A Goldsboro man Rog er L Kinnamon aged 24 was killed when his car left Route 13 near Harrington Sunday at 2 a m. Two Dover men Niles Edge 22 and James Edge 28 were seriously hurt. The weekend crashes across Maryland and Delaware totaled several injuries and one fatality. Local police indicate a driver fell asleep on Route 13. other incidents involved a Greenwood man Alfred Hains 38 whose car overturned, an amputated foot after a Route 307 collision near Easton, and multiple collisions near Denton and Hurlock with minor to serious injuries. The death raises Delaware road fatalities to 38 for the year.

New 49 Star American Flag Hoisted in Baltimore
At midnight on July Fourth 1959 the 49 Star U S flag was raised atop the Star Spangled Banner Flag House in Baltimore with a 49-gun salute by Montfaucon Post American Legion. The old 48 Star flag was lowered as Clarence Staines and Lu Jones oversaw the ceremony amid photographers and a cheering crowd. A naval time check and city clock marked the moment.
