Final Rites Held For C. V. West PE
Carlton Van West Sr., former Caroline County Register of Wills, had a long public service career. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Moore Funeral Home as officials paused to honor a man who never sought reelection after 24 years in office. West, also a railroad man and merchant in Denton and Greensboro, died Saturday at his Sixth Street home. He joined the Orphans Court through his father, Chief Judge Richard T. West, and was elected in 1938, serving six full terms, the longest in county history. He was known as a strong vote getter and popular figure in local politics.

Denton chairwoman Mrs Oliver Smith says the Chesapeake Bay Girl Scout Council starts its annual cookie sale on Friday January 22 with more than 10000 scouts along the Delmarva Peninsula. Last year cookies helped fund a 40000 camp improvement program at Camp Todd and other council campsites. Sales run January 22 to 30 with deliveries starting late February.
