Next day Nan and Fireheart wed in a rough ceremony. Eric frees Nan, while Sandomar and a giant attack the hut. A rock from above stuns Bando, Nan retrieves a revolver, fires futilely, then escapes as Brie flees into the night.
Eric, Nan, and their allies face a brutal stand with Sandomar and seven others at Horton’s hut. Packed with resolve, the group plans to kill Sandomar and Gar ge, bluff other attackers, and seek Aleut aid if needed. The door is blocked by a rock, sealing them in as the siege tightens and a rescue via Fireheart becomes their only move.
Erle plans a secret exit from the camp with Nan's help but is blocked by a wary Fireheart who refuses aid. He seeks Fireheart for help against looming danger, only to be met with doubt and rejection. Sando mar and Garge anticipate his move and await his return to confront him after he slips away into the night.
