Second Lt Malcolm Dickie Pursues Gunnery Course at Nellis AFB
Second Lt Malcolm G Dickie son of Denton resident James L Dickie is stationed at Nellis AFB Nevada taking an advanced gunnery course. A fighter pilot with prior training at Spence AFB Georgia and Laughlin AFB Texas he graduated from Caroline High School and spent two years at Salisbury Teachers College. He enlisted in April 1953 and became a second lieutenant after Air Cadet training completed in September 1954. At Nellis the base trains more than 1,200 pilots yearly and handles extensive fighter training with Navy like briefings and debriefings.

Goldsboro Fire Company Answers 25 Ist Run Calls
The Goldsboro Volunteer Fire Co. answered 25 first run calls in 1954 and assisted two other departments. Nine dwelling fires, four motor vehicle fires, and twelve field and brush fires occurred. Firemen logged 279 man hours and engines traveled 125 miles. The year’s largest blaze began at midnight January 11, 1954, at Alice Draper’s house, confined to the roof despite heavy snow.
