First Church To Join In Attendance Effort
The First Methodist Church of Denton will participate in the Church Attendance Movement from New Years through Easter. Rev. George W. Goodley said the program, backed by The Methodist Church General Board of Evangelism, aims to boost regular attendance and family participation. A committee led by Wilbur Hoopengardner will enlist fifty men to visit members January 26 as part of a broader week of coordinated visits with other denominations. The theme is Let God Have His Way At Home At Church At Work.

Snow Storm Slams Maryland Eastern Shore
Snow whipped by rising winds struck Maryland last Tuesday, hitting the Eastern Shore hardest with 4 to 6 inches in Caroline and about 2 inches in Southern Maryland and Baltimore. Gale warnings were posted on the Chesapeake Bay at 3 p.m. Traffic slowed on Denton Hill as road crews began sanding. Caroline, Talbot and Dorchester counties reported blinding snow and early school dismissals occurred in Caroline.

Greensboro Tavern Wrecked by Fire in January Incident
Mrs. Bertha Pippin planned to close her Greensboro tavern for a Florida vacation when a fire of undetermined origin destroyed the 245 story building. Fire crews from Greensboro Ridgely Goldsboro and Denton battled the blaze but stopped it from spreading to adjacent structures.

Denton Community Club Monthly Meeting and Plans
The Denton Community Club held its regular meeting at the clubhouse on Friday January 3. They approved purchasing 12 folding tables for the dining room and noted the clubhouse is available for use by groups for a small fee. The Junior Cotillion of December 27 drew 138 couples and netted 270.23 dollars for maintenance. Principal speaker Mr Wilbur Hoppengardner discussed Caroline County public schools and upcoming new school buildings Federalsburg North Carolina High and South Caroline High. He outlined architecture facilities finances and future education goals for 1959 1961 and beyond.

The Delmarva region will see a $16.5 million electric expansion in 1958 across Maryland Virginia and lower Delaware. Indian River Power Plant near Millsboro will gain a second 85 000 kilowatt unit while a Salisbury headquarters project consolidates offices and adds 25 heat pumps. A new 138 000 volt line from Denton to Vienna Delmar enables better power interchange and service reliability with Edgmoor. Funds come from stock sales to small investors, not taxes.

Audio Visual Exhibit At Caroline High Wednesday
An open exhibit by the audio-visual education class will be held at Caroline High School Wednesday night January 15 from 7 30 to 10 00. Caroline and neighboring counties teachers built displays from an extension course. Demonstrations include slide projectors movie projectors opaque projectors and more. Admission is free with Dr Dawn Maley of the University of Maryland as instructor.

Methodist Student Group Conference Convenes Sixth Quadrennial Meet
The National Methodist Student Movement held its Sixth Quadrennial Conference at Kansas University in Lawrence from December 27 to January 1. About 3,400 students from across the United States and Hawaii participated in a program of worship Bible study platform hours and fellowship events. Notable speakers included Dr. Norman Cousins Dr. Harold A. Bosley Bishop Fred Pierce Corson and Dr. George A. Buttrick. The New Year's Eve program featured the world premiere of The Invisible Fire oratorio followed by a Watchnight Service and the Lord's Supper administered by Bishop Matthew W. Clair Jr. Two representatives attended from Caroline County Miss Regina Hughes of Salisbury State Teachers College Wesley Foundation and Bert Messenger of Washington College Chestertown.

The Denton Community Club Nursery presented its fall-winter program featuring songs, dances, and games showing what the children learned from opening through December. A square dance take-off impressed the audience, and rhythm band numbers, popular Christmas songs, and a tree gifts moment closed the program with gifts for the children.
