Harry M Allston returned to his Denton home as a civilian last Saturday December 29, honorably discharged from the Army of the United States at Fort Meade after arriving from Europe. He served as a Private first class with the 315th Engineers Combat Battalion in Normandy Northern France Ardennes Rhineland and Central Europe. His decorations include European African Middle Eastern theatre ribbons Good Conduct American Theatre World War II Victory ribbons Expert Bayonet Medal and Marksman Carbine and Rifle medals. He trained with a road and bridge crew and spent his final overseas months at the Wiarton American Technical School in Blackpool England studying painting and wallpapering, a trade he will resume with his father Arthur Allston.

Fire near Marydel believed started from an oil stove gutted the farm house of James H. Moore at 114 miles east of Marydel. The Marydel Volunteer Fire Co. fought the blaze as it spread to other property. His family was away and insurance coverage is reported.

Stockholders of Denton National Bank and Peoples Bank of Denton will hold their annual meetings January 8 from 1 to 3 p m to elect officers and address business. Denton National Bank paid a 2 percent extra dividend on December 29 plus the regular 2 percent semi annual dividend. The four million dollar bank has operated since 1881. J Roland Chaffinch is president and I R Fleetwood cashier. Peoples Bank’s president is Harry H Nuttle, who took over last March. E Theodore Orme serves as cashier.

Robert Moore Promoted to Captain in Germany
First Lt. Robert J. Moore of the AUS Army in Germany was promoted to Captain in December. His parents, Mr and Mrs J Virgil Moore of Denton, learned of the move by cable from Berlin during Christmas dinner. He serves with the 78th Division Headquarters and has been overseas since October 1944. His older brother, Major Charles V. Moore, in the European Theatre over three years, is due to arrive in the States this month.
