Maryland becomes the 33rd state to recognize Lincoln's Birthday as a legal holiday by act of the General Assembly under Governor Lane. Dr. Horace E. Flack notes multiple past attempts since 1918, with 1941 and 1947 successes. the holiday now joins 32 states, including 7 south of the Mason‑Dixon. The measure follows a pattern of regional adoption and historic references to Lincoln's assassination at Ford's Theatre in Washington on April 14, 1865.

Charles E. Cadmus of Denton, a chemical manufacturer and former marine engineer, died December 24 in a Jacksonville hospital after six months as a patient. Funeral services were held in Jacksonville on Saturday. He had moved to Denton six years ago from Long Island and is survived by his wife and two children, Martin and Dorothy Joan.

John W Short Funeral Services Held Near Goldsboro
Funeral services for 64 year old John W Short were held at Hughes Chapel near Goldsboro with Rev Carvil Tribbitt officiating. Burial followed at Mt Olive Cemetery near the Delaware line. Short died at his son Medford Shorts home in Greensboro after a long illness. He is survived by his son and several grandchildren.
