Cut The Proposed Increase In State Taxes To The Bone Now
The 1959 state budget proposal calls for $51,249,762 in new or increased taxes and a spending level of $397,768, S37. Critics urge deep cuts, arguing the burden is too high and suggesting six concrete steps. They propose deferring nonessential programs, trimming a $442,709 reserve, limiting revenue needs to current expenditures, reducing grants, standardizing property assessments, cutting formula-driven and mandatory items, and shrinking dedicated funds to free general funds for tax relief.
