Choptank Electric Cooperative schedules its 11th annual meeting in Denton on March 6 to elect officers read reports and transact business. A nominating committee from nine Eastern Shore counties nominated incumbent directors for reelection. The cooperative added home economist Julia Wilson of Denton to staff in January.

Thomas Haven Chambers a merchant banker and longtime town leader died at his home age ninety one He served nearly four decades in town offices and was mayor for many terms He gave Chambers Park to Federalsburg and built Ada Chambers Memorial Chapel in 1948 He lived with his niece Mrs Harry Kinder and is survived by a Baltimore half brother Tallman Chambers

Bishop Hughes Dies In Capital
Edwin Holt Hughes 83 retired Methodist bishop and former Depauw University president died in Washington after illness following a speaking engagement in Muncie Indiana. He led Depauw 1903 to 1908 and acted as president at Boston University in 1923 and several times at American University. Survived by five children, services by Bishop Francis J. McConnell at Foundry Methodist Church, burial in Greencastle Indiana.

A financial campaign to fund a permanent Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts home in Denton was announced on Wednesday night February 8 1950. Rotary Lions Club American Legion Auxiliary and Chamber of Commerce divisions will aid. Over two acres donated by Mr and Mrs William Orme. Mothers praise the Scouts as the solution for children’s leisure time and urge community support and individual initiative.

Scouts Rally At Easton Ends Scout Week Events
About 150 Scouts leaders and parents attended the Second Annual Winter Rally at Easton Armory on February 10 during Scout Week. Troop 147 St Michaels won, with 132 Tilghman- led by Charles Fairbanks second, followed by 288 Wittman third, 165 Denton fourth, and 291 Oxford fifth. The Greensboro W M U of the Baptist Church held its monthly meeting at Mrs. Benjamin Howard s home. Activities began with America the Beautiful, a devotional by Mrs Wilson Jump, and prayers led by Mrs Welle Dragon. A panel discussed How Christian is America with emphasis on racial discrimination economic injustices migrant workers alcohol abuse social maladjustment and family morals. The meeting closed with a candle light service attended by ten women.

The 89,998 dollar Phoebus-Goldstein World War II Veterans Bonus Bill won approval from the State Senate Rules Committee. Senator Kimble said the measure affects the budget and the committee unanimously voted to forward it to the Finance Committee. A companion House bill proposing a $500 maximum payment also gained momentum with 49 House sponsors, while Governor Lane may veto any passed measure.
