Hughes Proposes 21 Year Age Limit for Alcohol Possession
Senator Harry R. Hughes from Annapolis introduced a bill to bar anyone under 21 from possessing alcoholic beverages. He argues current laws only ban sales to minors, making enforcement difficult as adults often buy for youths. If enacted, minors could face fines up to 50 dollars and cases would be heard by a Trial Magistrate. Fires Damage Buildings Near Denton Last Week
Two fires near Denton last week caused minor damage to a Double Hills building used as a state roads supply warehouse and resulted in a total loss of a barn near Hickrman. The Double Hills fire, Friday, was blamed on flares stored there and was contained by the Denton Volunteer Fire Company. Spectators hampered barn-fire efforts by clogging roads, and state police were summoned to clear access as the barn burned.
