State Board rules against gender bias in teaching contracts

Maryland teachers may not be dismissed for marrying after probation. The State Board of Education ruled that a clause forcing resignation upon marriage violated state law, which proscribes sex discrimination and does not differentiate between married and single teachers. The ruling came after a Wicomico County case where a seven year veteran was dismissed, with county officials backing the superintendent and school board.
