The Upper Eastern Shore Medical Society of Kent Queen Annes Talbot and Caroline Counties will convene January 17 at the Brick Hotel Denton hosted by Caroline County. Dr Krantz of University of Maryland will speak. Dr Lennon Federalsburg chairs speaker and fellowship. Dr George Denton arranges dinner. Caroline Society officers elected at Tidewater Inn Easton Dec 13 include Dr Kingsbury Federalsburg president Dr Winnacott Ridgely VP and Dr Riley Denton secretary treasurer.

Caroline County jury hears first test of the Defective Delinquent Act of 1950 regarding indefinite confinement for the criminally insane. Defense attorney James Owen Knotts argues the institution’s insanity finding is incorrect while physician Dr. Harold Boslow testifies for the state.
The 38th American Farm Bureau Federation convention cited Maryland as one of 37 states to increase membership in 1956, lifting the national total to 1,587,107 farm families. Maryland earned a Dairy Plaque for June Dairy Month promotions and a Citizenship Award for Get Out The Vote. Ronald Graybeal won the Northeast Regional Talk Meet on Agriculture's Place in the National Economy. Charmayne Dierker sang for the Youth Session and General Session. Delegates urged a new government approach and gradual elimination of certain activities, plus tobacco poundage control and stronger marketing for all commodities.
University of Maryland researchers report plant parasitic nematodes reduce Maryland crop yields by 12 to 15 percent, costing about 12.5 million annually. Nematologists surveyed over 1,000 fields, finding no free fields and more than 35 nematode types, many previously unknown. Farmers often fail to recognize infestations.
Mrs. Rose Mary Pimm, chairman of Caro line County Homemakers Cultural Committee, will present a live nativity scene with her children and farm animals on Christmas Eve from 7 to 8 pm. The viewing is open to the public at the Pimm farm northeast of Greensboro, accessible via a right turn off Route 313 on the first improved county road about one mile.
Maryland DHIA records show 36,849 cows averaged 9 740 pounds of milk and 363 pounds of butterfat for the test year. This surpasses the 1955 record by 830 pounds with Kent County leading at 9 909 pounds of milk and 390 pounds of fat. Forty seven local DHIA associations, farmer managed, record milk and fat while guiding costs. University of Maryland extension dairyman J R Schabinger notes Maryland’s average tops the national average of 9 502 pounds. state program supervised by the University of Maryland with USDA cooperation.
The University of Maryland Extension Service offers a 1957 farm account book distributed at cost by county agents and the Department of Agricultural Economics and Marketing. It provides a simplified month by month farm record, data for farm income taxes, and social security and self employment tax information. Copies cost 30 cents and are available at county agents.
The Caroline County Medical Society announces polio vaccine is available for all ages. The Public Health Service requests physicians inform the public that ample supplies exist now. Adults are urged to be immunized.
Charles E Brohawn & Bros Inc of Cambridge wins the contract for the new power company building north of Salisbury on Route 13 at Naylor Mill Road with a low base bid of 91747977. Other bids ranged from 1.767 million to 31.965 million. The firm plans to start by Christmas with about 1 1/2 years to complete the all electric facility housing Eastern Shore Public Service operations in Salisbury and surrounding counties.
An apparent attempt to break into the front doors of the Denton National Bank occurred between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. December 18 19. Janitor Camilla Boston notified bank president J Roland Chaffinch who alerted Trooper E C Myers around 7 30 a.m. A joint probe led to the arrest of William Lee DeFord III 20 of Denton on charges of attempted burglary and related thefts. DeFord also faces charges for a Bamberger Motor Sales break in and is linked to the Denton Armory incident last November. A 14 drill was recovered from his Brick Hotel room.
Four-H clubs from Caroline County donate handmade ornaments candles wreaths and other decorations to Eastern Shore State Hospital. Members plan carol visits to shut-ins and small gift deliveries while fostering community help during Christmas.
A Christmas message urges reflection on the spiritual meaning of the Nativity. It calls for dedicating lives to God, gratitude for religious freedom, prayers for the sick and burdened, guidance for leaders, and sharing the Christmas angel’s message of glory to God and peace on Earth.

Contributions include First Methodist Church Denton 40 dollars, St Benedicts Ridgely 30.75, Warmony Methodist WSCS 13.88, Mrs Beulah Carter Hillsboro 10, Miss Mildred Ginn Greensboro 12, Miss A May Thompson Denton 10. Chapter total 166.63 toward 310 quota. donors urged to send checks to Red Cross Office Denton MD.
