Organize marketing coops urged for small farmers
Edward Lipman of the National Cranberry Canners Association led about 250 Peninsula Horticultural Society members at Capital Grange Hall Dover in urging cooperative marketing to give small farmers market power. Lipman Nardelli and Odhner backed growth of large unified producer groups to compete with chain stores. Delaware university economist W T McAllister outlined steps to win markets: understand marketing, sell not assume, ethical practices, good product, know consumer, work hard. Panelists stressed prices at shipment and packaging, with attendees touring New York markets afterward.
