Samuel and Israel 7 12 25 Samuel’s Farewell Address and Vindication
Summary of Samuel leading Israel through oppression by the Philistines after seeking a king. God’s deliverance follows Samuel’s prayers. Samuel judges from Bethel to Ramah, then retires as Saul is crowned. He reviews God’s dealings since Moses, warns national prosperity depends on obedience, and warns ruin for disobedience. He vindicates himself by thunder and rain, then urges absolute dedication to the Lord and continues to intercede for the people.

Desert Tragedy Memento Donated to Penn University
Prof John W Harshberger of the botany department donated a dried mummified horned toad entangled in cactus spines to the University of Pennsylvania. The creature appeared to die of hunger and thirst as the cactus retained no punctures on its skin while the animal’s hind legs were trapped by thorny growth. The plant, sturdier than the toad, seemed to survive rootlessly for weeks, illustrating arid survival on a laboratory shelf.
