Caroline Unit No. 29 of the American Legion Auxiliary held its regular December meeting and voted to donate 5 to the Flag House in Baltimore now a National Shrine. The group organized Christmas gift drives for Perry Point Veterans Hospital delivering 44 gifts valued at 53.90 and will host veterans at Perry Point on December 18. Dolls for Easton Memorial Hospital girls and toy trucks for boys are planned with unit members sewing dresses and baking cakes for home hosted gatherings.

Miss Vivian V. Simpson Rockville attorney and former female rights advocate will be Maryland’s first woman secretary of state starting December 15. Governor Lane announced the appointment, with a $2,000 annual salary, succeeding Bertram L. Boone II who resigned to pursue a federal post. Simpson, University of Maryland graduate, previously served on the State Industrial Accident Commission from 1940 for seven years before returning to law practice.

Chapter Of United World Federalists At Chestertown
A World Peace Forum at Washington College Chestertown December first featured Rep. E. T. Miller speaking on what United World Federalists objectives could mean for world people. A Chestertown chapter formed that night as a joint Chestertown residents and Washington College students group. Miller, a World War veteran, argued that neither armed strength nor disarmament alone has prevented war and urged a world law enforcement approach to international disputes. About 300 residents instructors and students from the Eastern Shore attended, showing strong enthusiasm and thoughtful engagement.

The 1950 Boy Scouts fundraiser surpassed the November goal set by District Finance Chairman Horace M. Morgan. Caroline County raised 2076.07 of a 2105 target with some areas unreported. Roads Budget Is Submitted
The State Roads Commission proposes a $29,312,384 budget for next year based on gasoline and motor vehicle revenues and other sources.
