Miarviana's Farm Front Maryland farmers dig 50 miles of V ditches
Maryland farmers under the 1951 ACP PMA program dig about fifty miles of V shaped drainage ditches, three feet deep and 12 to 15 feet wide at the top. The effort, first year of this aid, used qualified Soil Conservation Service planners and aims to extend to all 23 counties. Blandford, PMA chair, notes the public shares the soil’s cost as a vital resource. Maryland farmers ordered nearly 109000 tons of limestone and 360000 pounds of crimson clover seed to protect and restore soil fertility.
