On Tuesday December 2 1947 Denton High School students enjoyed a fire prevention program presented by John N Wilkerson Sr secretary of the Eastern Federation of Mutual Insurance Cos with Jesse Pearson and John N Wilkerson Jr agents of local fire firms The demonstration highlighted fire hazards chimney safety and dangers of overloading extension cords and coin plugged fuses The event was repeated at the Denton Lions Club later that evening and was arranged through Walter G Kerslake Jr a Sparks Club member and local fire insurance agent

Washington College coach Joe McClain brought the Chestertown Collegians to the Denton Armory for the Mar Del League opener against the Denton Bobcats. Chestertown won 41 to 38 in a tightly contested game with lead changes, clutch long shots, and strong Denton defense. Diffie led Chestertown with 17 points as Denton impressed with teamwork and clean play despite the loss.

The Denton public schools PTA met in Caroline High School auditorium Monday December 1 at 8 pm. President Mrs Earl Crouse presided and reports on last month’s activities were given by Mrs Alice Hignutt and Mr T Conover Crouse. The program featured a Glee Club by Miss Genevieve Rugh and a band and orchestra under Mr I Smith with several selections. Blanche Chaffinch's class won the highest attendance award for parents.

The four hundred and thirty 1947 Christmas Club members have been mailed checks totaling $30,674.15 by The Denton National Bank. This is the largest club membership and the largest total ever distributed by the bank, exceeding last year's total by $6,250.
