A early Wednesday fire in the Preston School auditorium gym nasium area caused extensive smoke and water damage to the building. Firefighters from Preston Easton Federalsburg Hurlock and Denton battled the blaze for about three hours. The loss is estimated over 75000 dollars. Principal William Murdoch oversees the school with plans to resume classes if an adjustment can be worked out.

Mental Health Directors Elect Thompson As President
The Caroline Chapter of the Maryland Association for Mental Health met at the Health Center on November 24 electing Miss A May Thompson as president, succeeding James Truitt of Federalsburg who resigned. Legion Holds Thanksgiving Dance At Post Home
Caroline Post No 29 of the American Legion hosted its annual Thanksgiving dance at the Post Home near Denton with about 60 couples joining in crab cakes and barbecued beef sandwiches. Future dances are planned for New Year’s Eve Valentine Easter and a March of Dimes benefit. Santa Claus Day in Denton Ends in Delight
Last Saturday afternoon about 1600 children from Denton and nearby areas attended Santa Claus Day in Denton. The event was organized by the Denton Chamber of Commerce, the Denton Volunteer Fire Company, and the Dentonia Theatre. The tradition began over 25 years ago with free cartoons shown on Thanksgiving Day at the Dentonia in honor of Samuel Mellits’ son Allyn.
