A 10 inch tree at 10 dollars per thousand board feet is worth 20 cents as a sawlog, but at 14 inches in 12 years its value reaches 1.08 dollars, about five times the 10 inch value. Allowing trees to grow to higher grades yields substantial returns. High prices for poor quality products justify selling low quality trees now and saving young thrifty trees as a bank account earning 20 to 35 percent yearly.
