Sweet potatoes grow farther north than thought
Experiments by the agriculture department show sweet potatoes will thrive as far north as Michigan. Planting ridges should be three to five feet apart with vines about fourteen inches apart. After vines cover ground, little cultivation is needed. Northern crops dig vines before frost. southern crops remain in ground until use. Proper curing temp is 80 to 85 degrees with 45 to 55 degrees afterward.
