Caroline County real estate brought $45,985 at public sale Tuesday conducted by trustee W Hyland Vansant under a circuit court decree. Listings included Lyford tract for $17,800 to Harry Rieck, Ford farm for $12,600 to Hackett Downes, and multiple Denton residences with prices ranging from $610 to $4,320. Other parcels in Denton and nearby areas changed hands to local buyers including Samuel Melius, W J Rickards, Geo Koenig, E Theodore Orme, Sherman Tribbitt, Miss Ella Carter, Mervin Pentz, and John Saulsbury, with additional unimproved lots, a warehouse lot, and a farm near Denton sold for modest sums.

He is stationed at New Orleans Louisiana and says Maryland is the best state he has been in yet. Federalsburg Flier Killed In Crash
Ensign Alton W. Hallowell 22 son of Mr and Mrs Russell Hallowell Federalsburg was killed in a plane crash in the service. He trained at Anacostia and Pensacola and served five months in the Pacific aboard a carrier. He is the fourth Navy and seventh local service death. Captain Elizabeth Wheatley in charge of the Schofield Barracks operating room spoke to a surgical dressings class Tuesday. Visiting foster parents Mr and Mrs William Finn, she has 42 months in Hawaii and wears two stars including one for the Asiatic Pacific campaign. She went to the Philippines as the only woman on a transport carrying 560 officers and 3,000 troops to evacuate island residents and will return to Denton by August 31 then may seek a transfer to Saipan. Wheatley is a graduate of Atlantic City Hospital Training School for Nurses and earlier trained at Graduate Hospital Philadelphia Jewish Hospital, then served at Walter Reed Hospital, Mitchell Field, and Honolulu since 1941.

Fire of undetermined origin destroyed three Snow Hill cannine company buildings within 20 minutes last Wednesday causing an estimated 100000 dollars in damage and injuring plant worker and a volunteer firefighter. State's Attorney William G. Kebin and Owen Stanley, a Negro employee, were among the injured. About 100 workers were inside the structures. Owner Paul G. Wimbrow estimated 14000 cases of tomatoes packed for the armed forces valued at 3 dollars each. The blaze began in a pile of new cardboard cases in the packing house. The boiler factory and an office building were also razed.

Fire Causes $50,000 Loss of Cambridge Furniture
A Tuesday fire of undetermined origin caused about $50,000 damage to furniture intended for Christmas sales stored in a Cambridge warehouse. The furniture belonged to the owner of Nathan's Store and was kept in a building owned by Cambridge Industries Inc. Nathan said the loss was partially insured.

Naval Academy Cadet Escapes Injury In Bay Crash
Midshipman Boone C. Taylor of Greensboro was aboard a Chesapeake Bay cruise with Naval Academy midshipmen when a Navy plane collided with a boat during overhead maneuver. The pilot and four crew were killed and several others injured. Taylor escaped unharmed.
