Bridge Awards Vaide More Than 866000 in Chesapeake Bay contracts

The State Roads Commission announced bridge awards totaling over 866000 for Chesapeake Bay projects including storm damage repair on the east causeway. Baltimore Contractors, Inc. secured the lead $275596 bid for storm repair, piling, slope paving, and future protection.

Record Season At Rodney Camp Ends Busy Year

Rodney Scout Camp, Del Mar Va Council, closed its 34th season with a record attendance of 2047 Boy weeks. Over 8 weeks the average was 250 Scouts weekly, with Tri County District contributing 144 Bay weeks and multiple troops from Centreville to St Michaels attending. Scouts earned 90 merit badges across camping canoeing cooking athletics forestry leather craft life saving metal work pioneer rocks and minerals swimming wood carving and woodwork. Thirty Scouts completed Second Class and 27 First Class in this District.

Denton Father of 7 Dies in Highway Crash

Funeral service held Saturday for Carroll Unsworth a Denton father of seven killed near Hillsboro when his car collided with a state roads project truck after fog obscured the approach. He started to work at a Cordova canning plant and is survived by his wife and seven children.

Caroline County Schools Open September Fifth 1951

The Caroline County Board of Education announces school opening on Wednesday morning September 5, 1951 with full-day sessions. Children reaching age six by December 31, 1951 should enroll and vaccination certificates are required. All physically able children must attend until age 16. A teachers meeting is set for September 4 to organize. The article lists teaching staff and new assignments across county schools.

Choptank Electric Workers Strike Over Contract Holdout

Employees of Choptank Electric Cooperative represented by Local Union 1707 IBEW did not report for work on August 16 to press management for wage hours and working conditions talks. The union says negotiations have stalled since a June 23 proposal and filed unfair labor practice charges with the NLRB. The cooperative, based in Denton, serves over 9 000 members on Maryland's Eastern Shore and buys energy from the Eastern Shore Public Service Company. the outage did not affect power but left crews absent for nonemergency duties. $200,000 Suit Filed in Gressing Fatality

Robert W. Downes Jr. files a $200,000 lawsuit in Caroline County Circuit Court against Baltimore and Eastern Railroad for damages in the death of Lawrence Noble Jones Sr. of Denton. Jones, a painter at Dahlgren Naval Proving Grounds, was killed at a railway crossing on Matapeake highway near Hillsboro while returning home from Dahlgren April 12, 1951. The suit is for Joneses' widow Ruth V. Jones and minor children Florence Patrick Jones, Lawrence Noble Jones Jr., and John Paul Jones.

Memorial Gifts Pile Up for Easton Hospital Expansion

Three new memorial gifts totaling 22600 push forward the 750000 building fund for Easton Hospital enlarged facilities. A public drive kicks off in October with John W Noble as chairman and Davis C Burroughs chairing the gifts committee. Willis Charles W funeral services held for Burrsville farmer

Funeral services for Charles Wal ton Willis 74 retired farmer of Burrsville were held Sunday at Rawlings Funeral Home Greensboro with Rev Roy Phillips officiating. Burial followed in Greensboro Cemetery.
