Maloney Family Reunion Held at Concord Community House

The tenth Maloney descendants reunion of Robert H. and Josephine Maloney met at Concord Community House on Aug 18 with relatives from Pennsylvania Delaware and Maryland attending. Paul Maloney led a business meeting after a picnic lunch. 1961 minutes were read. next reunion set for 1965 at an undecided location.

North Carline F F A chapter officers attended an Eastern Shore Leadership Training Conference at Easton High School on August 15 with eleven other chapters represented. Glenn Lewis spoke on leadership and Abe Gottwall addressed the group on seizing life’s moment. King Family Reunion at Camp Mardela Details Attendees

Members of the King clan from across states gathered at Camp Mardela for a weekend reunion. Highlights included Leroy Clemens and Frances Clemens presenting Europe by car photos, Frances Clemens’ Brethren Service Commission service, and talks by Rev. Rufus B. King and Rev. Jesse D. Reber. Donations supported Ecuador mission work and Camp Mardela.

Water Safety Show at Garland Lake Receives Praise

The Caroline County Red Cross held a water safety program at Garland Lake near Denton on August 17 with instructor William Peeples of Preston directing sessions at Garland Lake and Nagel's Pond. Volunteers, including Mrs. Warren Hopkins, were honored, and 15-year-old Lee Nashold received a life saving citation for aiding a panicked child. Certificates were awarded to students who completed courses, ahead of a final show at Pine Crest Camp on August 28 at 11 am.

Camp Mardela Concludes Activities This Weekend

Camp Mardela near Denton wraps up its busy summer with the Spiritual Life Retreat August 20 22 and the Young Adult Weekend August 23 25. Rev M R Ziegler of Elgin Illinois leads both events while Rev Robert Bowman of Easton directs the retreat. Don Richards of Federalsburg leads the Young Adult Weekend with registration Friday night.

County Farm Girls Vie For 1963 State Queen Title

Twenty three Maryland county farm girls compete for the 1963 State Farm Queen at Timontum Fair opening Aug 26. Contestants are selected by local Farm Bureau Women committees. eligibility includes unmarried status 16 to 18, farm home, and family farming income. Judging 8 p.m. on fair grounds. winner receives four year University of Maryland scholarship or $200 alternate, with runners up prizes and participation charms. Caroline's entrant is Miss Betty Jean Saathoff.

State's Attorney Disposes Of Cases In Caroline Courts

In Caroline County Circuit Court on Friday Aug 16 Charlie Gleaton 39 of West Denton received 10 years and Russell Clench of Ridgely a long term for assault and battery on William Baynard 61 of West Denton. Sentences delayed for pre sentence reports. Both jailed since May 4 and given credit against sentences. Also Simms of near Federalsburg sentenced to 10 days for disorderly conduct Aug 19. Other magistrate actions included Chatley found guilty of disturbance of the public peace fined 10 plus costs. Baynard fined 1 dollar. Lovett fined 30 for petty larceny. Warren fined 10 plus costs for disorderly conduct. Circuit Court pending trial for Archie Blair on delinquency charge bail set at 500. Otis Parks and Robert Parks fined 10 and costs for disorderly conduct at Mosley’s Tavern. Marvin Dickerson fined 75 for illegal burning of debris.

Children Complete Course At Pine Crest Camp

A Pine Crest Camp beginner swimmer course run July 25 through August 10 under the Caroline County Red Cross Chapter lists the successful students.
