Denton Fifty Years Ago Reminiscences Of A Town
The piece recalls Denton before the war with Main Street scenes and shops like Heritage, Henry Blackiston, and Alburger. It notes the old wharf and river scenes, schooling at Denton Academy, teachers Miss Dora Gray and Miss Huldah Bonwell, and youth life from swimming at the river to Fourth of July celebrations after the Civil War. It also recalls a major 1865 fire, the rise of town improvements, and a tragic August finding of an abandoned infant later named Lillian Forest.
