State Roads Commission awarded four highway contracts totaling 1.515 million dollars for Western Maryland and the Eastern Shore. The largest 5 mile Ocean City extension toward Berlin went to Weile L. Teer Co. for 1.214 million. Other resurfacing jobs were let to Cumberland Contracting Co., Pleasanton Edgell Inc., and Keeley Construction Co. with authorizations from 52 thousand to 142 thousand.

The Baptist Young People's Department of the Eastern Shore of Maryland runs its first camp at Camp Mardela near Denton starting Monday under Mrs. H. C. DuBois. Thirty youths attend, with mission study and Sunday School training in the mornings, recreation afternoons, and daily worship. Camp closes August 13 at noon.

Ridgely Man's Cow Captures Grand Prize At Garland Lake
The ninth Eastern Shore dairy show at Garland Lake near Denton crowned Joseph O Edwards of Ridgely with the grand championship for a Holstein cow and Edwin Meredith of Federalsburg with the junior title for a Holstein heifer. Marvin Singer judged the entries. 4-H boy Billy Sutton of Chestertown won senior and grand with his Holstein bull. The event, backed by extension service and local breed associations, highlighted pedigree quality over sheer numbers.

Man Kills Self After Accident in Fruitland Home
An Army veteran, 24, died from a self-inflicted head wound in his Fruitland home after a minor Route 50 truck accident. His wife, Gladys Beers, had earlier hidden the Spanish 25 caliber pistol. Funeral services were held with American Legion military rites at Parsons Cemetery.

Five Bypasses Being Built In Maryland
