Williams Joins Newton Poultry Staff On Delmarva

C S Williams joins O A Newton and Son Company as hatchery and turkey supervisor starting August 1 1946. He replaces B V Carmean who resigns to run a hatchery with broiler and turkey production near Laurel Delaware. Williams brings poultry expertise from Ruckers Hatchery Ottumwa Iowa and Maryland University Maryland Navy veteran.

Final Plans For Eastern Shore Bull Show And Field Day

Final arrangements are set for the Annual Eastern Shore Bull Show and Holstein Field Day at Garland Lake this Saturday August 3 starting at 11 a.m. More than 60 entries have been received, with J Homer Remsburg of Middletown to judge. Breeders must present registration papers or verification from their Breed Association. prizes total 5000 dollars per animal, up to six animals per exhibitor, sponsored by the Breed Association and The Maryland State Fair Board.

Business Women’s Group Meets for July Picnic

The Caroline County Business and Professional Women’s Club gathered at Miss Elizabeth MacDonald’s Denton home on Wednesday evening July 24 for a picnic and business meeting. Miss Mattie M. Smith, newly elected president, led the session and recounted the Cleveland Biennial of the National Federation of B and P Women’s Clubs. Twenty Maryland delegates joined the national membership of 150,000. A tea and program at Miss Smith’s Denton home are planned for August 4 to set the club year 1916-47.

Hughes Homer In 10th Defeats Rock Hall 9 8

Harry Hughes homered in the 10th to lift the Dentonians to a 9 8 victory over Rock Hall after a see-saw game. Denton trailed 8 6 after eight, yet rallied in the home half with a two run double and Hughes game winning shot to right center. Rock Hall batters led by Tucker and Plummer produced timely hits while Hughes drew 9 walks in a pitching duel.

Dover Latex Plant Expansion Continues

International Latex Corporation completes one of two new buildings at Playtex Park in Dover, with the other due to begin operation soon. The expansion promises hundreds of local jobs within 40 miles, maintaining ideal, air conditioned, well lit working conditions. President Spanel credits the Golden Rule for growth, noting ongoing employee training and harmonious supervisor staff relations as key to quality products and future hires.

District Governor Addresses Rotarians on Leadership

William Anthony of Baltimore, governor of Rotary’s 180th district, urged Denton Rotary Club members to take responsibility as leadership is needed. He linked Rotary to world peace through UNESCO and the UN, noting 6,000 clubs in 72 regions and clubs reestablished in France, China, the Philippines, and the Netherlands since the war, with Egypt never abandoned, and Germany awaiting German control before reestablishment. L B Rigler To Talk At S Co op Meeting

L B Rigler of Mt Airy Md will present the annual report of the Southern States Cooperative at the Denton local membership meeting on August 8. The program includes a technicolor sound feature, a comedy cartoon, election of new board members, and a Farm Home Advisory Committee, with H H Nuttle as chairman. About 300 members and families are expected at Caroline High School in Denton for the Thursday evening event.

The first meeting of Caroline Memorial Post No. 7937 VFW was called by Leon Spence on Tuesday July 80th at 8 00 p m at the Greens hoo Fire House with twenty six members present Ten new members were sworn in and regular meetings set for the first and third Tuesday of each month The post seeks qualified veterans to join and asks interested veterans to contact a member for an application blank.

Miles River Regatta to be held in St Michaels weekend

Regatta to revive the Miles River Yacht Club classic in St Michaels with 2000 boats and 10,000 yachtsmen expected. Racing runs Friday to Saturday on multiple courses, 73 events planned including log canoes for perpetual trophies and high profile power events sanctioned by the American Power Boat Association. New Bridge Road Project Is Started

Work on the six mile long Matthewstown road project began last week. The new pavement will extend from Easton toward Tuckahoe Creek with plans for a new bridge span to replace the current inadequate structure joining Talbot and Caroline Counties. Engineer H D Peddicord leads the project with headquarters set in Matthewstown.
