Greensboro voters approve a new town charter at a special meeting held April 7 1965 repealing the old charter under Home Rule Law. The measure creates the office of Mayor with future elections set for 1967 and 196? terms. the resolution becomes effective May 28 unless a petition is filed by May 18.
Mrs. Pauline Austin, 45, was killed and her husband William C. Austin, 62, hospitalized after a pickup skidded into a ditch on an unmarked county road near Route 317, three miles northeast of Denton. She died on arrival at Easton Memorial Hospital. he was in serious condition with head cuts and a broken left leg. The crash occurred about 7:30 p.m. Saturday. state police say loss of control caused the skid. Both occupants were ejected.
Sam Mellits, a former Denton cinema owner, recalls his Denton ties as he promotes Easter events. Denton churches unite for three hours of worship from noon to 3 PM Friday at St. Luke's Methodist. An all-denominational Sunrise Service at 6 30 AM Sunday will be led by the Caroline County Ministerium at Camp Todd.
Federal aid totaling about 245000 arrives for Caroline County to expand and enrich education. The Goldsboro Volunteer Fire Co. will hold its annual fundraising supper at the Goldsboro community hall on April 17, announced this week.
Denton officials propose inviting unsewered districts to join town limits at no cost for now. A five year tax holiday, protective zoning, property value insurance, mosquito control, emergency street maintenance and police protection would accompany inclusion. Growth seen as key to avoiding economic stagnation amid political change.
Connie Koste Cox mobilizes Denton churches and residents to clothe and fund the Cheon-Woo Orphanage in Seoul. About 188 children need clothing and supplies, with 80 potential foster sponsors at $6 per month. Captain Thomas Drews Cox has served with the 1st Cavalry Division in Korea since June.

Senator Harry H. Hughes announced road contracts totaling 112 159 dollars to David H Brandle Construction Company for resurfacing 6.51 miles of Route 313 from Goldsboro to intersections with Routes 16 and 404 at Double Hills and Route 404 east of the Hillsboro By Pass to Route 312. Coran and Gatch Inc was awarded 538 843 dollars for resurfacing Route 16 from Double Hills to near Bureau, including grading drainage and two curb modifications.
Caroline Queen Annes and Kent counties plan a joint meeting on Wednesday night to discuss a tri county regional community college and vocational training facility. Senator Hughes backs the project and has engaged Kent and Queen Anne officials. The delegation has applied to the State Department of Education for help, with Senate Bills 419 and 420 proposing a five million dollar bond to cover 75 percent of construction and ten million dollars for area vocational schools on a matching basis.
The Greensboro Lions Club hosts an Easter Egg Hunt on April 18 at 2 00 p.m. by the Greensboro bypass near the new bridge. Joe Riddleberger chairs the event which plans ample hidden eggs and prizes for the most finds, plus a live rabbit for a catcher. Adults and older youth are invited to observe and enjoy the family event.
George M. Dyer III, field representative, writes to Denton Journal president Emory Dobson praising the paper for editorial support of Down Commissioners in forging a unified local government. He notes urbanization is a national issue and commends the city’s efforts and Maryland Municipal League backing.
Denton mayors and two commissioners officially protest the closing of the C P telephone business office. They sent letters to AT&T president and C P Division Manager in Baltimore arguing against service disruption while acknowledging possible lack of economic justification for continuation. The officials note the town’s residents rely on the Denton office for bill payments and local service.
Seaford officer Cpl. Robert Miller and state police chased Kent East over 12 miles at speeds up to 100 mph. East crashed in a wooded area near Noble Road after Miller lost control near a utility pole. East was jailed on reckless driving and concealed pistol charges after a Denton magistrate set a $150 bond.
