Management is Key to Tomato Coldframe Success

Extension expert H A Hunter emphasizes cloth covered coldframes and early field planting for tomatoes. He warns that hardening seedlings against cold, pests, and disease is essential, with rolling back coverings on warm days and thorough early thinning to three or four plants per inch. Regular spraying or dusting with Bordeaux mix and lead arsenate or copper lime dust should begin after emergence and continue until field setting.
