Judge Lewin Wickes Dies Sud denly in Chestertown
Judge Lewin W. Wickes of the Second Judicial Circuit of Maryland died in Chestertown Saturday afternoon after faint chest sensation en route to a Washington College board of governors meeting. A 66 year old jurist, he served thirteen years on the bench and was once named possible successor to Chief Judge Adkins. Born December 17 1866 at Chestertown he studied at Marston School and Washington College, and earned a Maryland Law School degree. He held Washington College honorary doctor of laws and served in church and state roles, including president of the Washington College board of governors and four years on the State Tax Commission. Survived by widow Mrs Alexine Solomon Wickes three children and a sister.

Memorial Service for Judge Wickes Held in Caroline Court
A memorial service honored the late Lewin W. Wickes, associate judge of the Second Judicial Circuit, with resolutions adopted by the Caroline County bar. Tributes were paid by judges Knotts Keating Adkins and by bar members, as the court adjourned to May 6. Wickes, born 1866 in Chestertown, served since 1919 on the Caroline County bench and had earlier been a key member of the State Tax Commission. He died April 18 1933 after a brief illness from heart disease.

Gilbert Wilcox Mead, dean of Birmingham Southern College and head of English, was chosen president of Washington College Ches ter town to succeed Dr. Paul Emerson Titsworth. Mead, 44, is a Maryland Eastern Shore educational leader, Methodist church affiliate, and author. He has held multiple college and academic honors, hails from Pittsburgh, and has roots in Allegheny College and Westminster College.

Former Carolinian Joins Roosevelt Aide as Little Cabinet
John Dickinson, a Greensboro native and Johns Hopkins and Princeton graduate, becomes the fifth university professor named to a Roosevelt administration post and the third to join the President's Little Cabinet as Assistant Secretary of Commerce under Daniel Roper. At Harvard Law, 1921, Dickinson practiced law with McAdoo, Cotton & Franklin in New York, later in California, and held academic roles in history and economics.

Lloyd Dyer Slain In Altercation At Greensboro Filling Station
Lloyd Dyer a 40 year old Greensboro man was shot to death early Tuesday at a Denton Greensboro road filling station by 73 year old co worker Joe Cross over a 40 cent pipe. Cross jailed on murder charge after witnesses said Cross fired then fled. Dyer's death follows a prior Dyer family gun death in January and indictments were returned within hours.

Plans move forward for the Annual Conference of the M P Church to meet in Denton June 14 to 19. A Housing Committee canvass begins April 19 to secure lodging for about 300 preachers and delegates, with meals provided by local church women. Denton and Caroline county expect about 800 ministers and visitors, bringing business and activity to the community.
