History Makers at St Luke's Palm Sunday Membership Surge
At St Luke's Methodist Church in Denton on Palm Sunday April 7 a record 71 people joined in 11 a m service. Seventeen youths and fifty-five adults joined or transferred, including 29 on Profession of Faith with 20 men. The pastor called it the largest single intake in church history and expected membership to pass 1,000 within a year.

Memorial Plaque To John Hanson Unveiled April 6
A memorial plaque honoring John Hanson was unveiled on Saturday April 6 at 2 p m in La Plata Maryland. Hanson a Maryland native and early national leader served as First President of the United States in Congress Assembled 1781 1782 and helped establish the First National Thanksgiving Day and the Post Office system. The Maryland Society of the Sons of the American Revolution sponsored the ceremony with speaker Neil H Swanson. The marker was later placed at the Gateway of Mulberry Grove Port Tobacco Md where Hanson was born. Many officials and historical society members attended.

New World Gospel Mission Church Opens in Henderson
Pastor Clarence Voshell announces the opening of the New World Gospel Mission Church in Henderson, formerly the Nazarene Church. Services begin Sunday April 14 at 10 a m with a walk from the old church to the new building. The church welcomes all faiths and operates independent of denomination. Regular services Sundays at 10 a m and 7 p m.

A USAC sprint car event at Langhorne Speedway ended in tragedy when Bobby Marvin 23 of Columbus Ohio died after a crash that flipped his dirt oval car and burst into flames. Bud Tinglestad of Dayton Ohio escaped unharmed as Roger McCluskey won the 100 mile meeting with Jim Hurtubise second and a national lead after two heats.

Grogan Presides Over Maryland WWI Veterans Meet
Roy V R Grogan Sr state commander of the World War I Veterans of Maryland presided at a meeting of the Administrative Council and the 9th Annual Convention Committee in Baltimore at the Post Home of Veterans of Foreign Wars. Adjutant Weipert sought clarification as Grogan listened before ruling in the decision. Grogan expressed relief to be back in harness and his Buddies welcomed his return to department meetings.

4-H Demonstration Day At Colonel Richardson High
Saturday April 6 showcased blue and red ribbon winners and champions who will represent Caroline County at the May 18 district event in Centreville at 4-H Park. Champions include Bonnie Brown Lynn Schmick Paulette Trice Kay Stirn and others with scholarships awarded by Choptank Electric Cooperative and Eastern Shore Electric Companies. Judges and organizers led a day of judging and a general assembly presided by Ann Billmeier with assist fromstaff.

Quillen Elected To Head Caroline County Firemen
John O. Quillen of Denton was elected president of the Caroline County Firemen's Association at the Federalsburg meeting on Friday April 5. James Meredith of Preston is vice president and Walter Bounds of Denton secretary. O J Morgan Federalsburg and Charles Nichols Greensboro were re elected treasurer and fire recorder. Granville White attended as future Del Mare Va Firemen president. The group discussed a proposed Central Fire Alarm System for Caroline County to be headquartered in Denton with 24 hour operation and grid mapping for quick fire location. The system could also serve air raid alarms and would require county funds. next meeting set for September 6 1963 in Goldsboro.

Science And Math Exhibit At Denton School
Denton School hosted a Science and Math Exhibit last Monday filling the auditorium. Students from grades 1 through 8 showcased work aligned with the county’s three year old New Science Curriculum, joined by 3 or 4 exhibits from the Maryland Academy of Science, drawing about 400 parents and interested residents. The exhibit followed planning by the school science committee chaired by Worth Walters since September.
