Thursday October 6th rally calls Vinton and Jackson counties to attend a meeting featuring premier speakers in the state. By order of State Ex Cosn.
A call urges all voters on October 11 to oppose oppressive legislation by the Radical State and County Ticket. The message asks citizens to assemble and demand change in national administration, urging a clean Democratic vote and to ensure no name is scratched from the ballot.
The document cites eight thousand nine hundred fifty five dollars and one cent as August Internal Revenue collections in the Eleventh District, prompting rhetoric about heavy taxation. It notes yearly totals and urges laborers to vote for lower taxes and easier times.
A dated political appeal urges voters to oppose Bondolder Fre who has served in Congress since 1867 and to elect Ralph Leete instead, accusing the incumbent of keeping prices up to fund government and tax relief for himself.
The piece denounces a weekly paper as hostile to temperance and criticizes Radical party leaders for liquor policy. It cites Ohio constitutional prohibitions, 1844 liquor regulations, and Radical control since 1861, accusing them of licensing manufacture and sale of whisky. It condemns William Baughman and the carpet-bagger label and notes a Good Templar lodge meeting omission.
The Revenue Ring has named John T. Wilson as a candidate. Backers debate his chances, arguing his name recognition and organizational support could secure victory while opponents question alignment with core priorities.
A Worcester Democrat letter reports large dissatisfactions with J T Wilson among Vinton County Republicans who favored H B Bundy. It quotes laborers arguing taxes on bondholders are unfair and favors Ralph Leete, the “poor man’s friend,” with many workers promising to vote Democrat or abstain on election day.
A series of Democratic meetings announce campaigns against Radical rule and land grabs. Speakers include Raven Leere and Col. O F Moone, with sessions daily at various schools and townships from Sept 19 to Oct 4, organized by county committees. A separate note touts a $44,000,000 tea tax revenue to fund treasury needs and attack Radical excess.
In a sharp editorial note the paper claims every candidate on the ticket opposes land grabbers while the ticket itself favors them. It also credits Suraton Ativan G. Tarawan with repeated documentary favors and asserts obligations tied to those actions.
The paper claims all ticket candidates oppose rat-eating Chinamen imported to replace rail, furnace, and farm labor. It accuses the radical ticket backed by banks and revenue rings of advocating Chinese workers to undercut white laborers. A candidate Axon of W. Hf and B. Sanns of Zalos ki are named amid a fatal Sunday horseback accident.
Soldiers in Vinton County seek the history of the proposed Bounty Law before the Radical Congress and track who blocked 160 acre land grants. The Delaware Congressional District Prohibition Convention met last Wednesday, nominating a Congressional candidate, a Common Pleas Judge candidate, and a full county ticket.
A historical critique cites General Morgan’s 1862 Zanesville speech and a Wilson land grant memo. It argues Congress sold vast public lands to Pacific RR interests since 1861, and links tariff inequities to Radical policy, accusing John T. Wilson of voting for the unfair measures.
