Deaths and disabilities among railroad conductors report

A report to the Life Insurance Company and Railroad Conductors of the United States shows in the year ending August 1, 1872 at least thirty two conductors removed from the association by death, disease, or permanent disability. Sixteen died at their posts, twelve from consumption among passenger conductors, two lost limbs, and one died of sunstroke. The piece argues firmer staffing and higher pay could reduce mortality and improve safety on trains. The remainder includes health and lifestyle advice and scattered notes on other topics.
