Budget trimming by county council lowers 1967 tax rate
The County Council reduced the 1967 county budget requests by 20,905 and cut the county rate from 74.1 to 69.5 cents. Major reductions included Sheriff 400, county agent 350, assessor 250, circuit court 3,850, juvenile court 500, jail 450, county home 13,775, drainage 630, commissioners 400, veterans 300, and health 400. The Adjustment Board reviewed budgets with few changes. local rate tweaks occurred in Monroe Township and Washington. State Tax Board hearings are expected near October 1.
