The State Fire Marshal has ordered the county to abandon the jail and residence immediately. The board president is out of town and the letter’s details remain undisclosed. The fate of funding and timing remains unclear as the issue resurfaces at the county commissioners meeting.

A state medical auxiliary health workshop will be held in Rochester at the Witmer gymnasium on Wednesday October 8. Women from 20 northwestern Indiana counties are invited with representatives from Home Economics clubs Farm Bureaus Federated clubs Granges and health organizations. The program starts at 9 am includes a noon luncheon and an afternoon session with panel discussions on heart cancer and general health led by experts. Mrs Thomas C Brown serves as Carroll County Medical Auxiliary president.
Parents of Delphi school band and chorus students met in the band room at the Armory Monday evening with Gene Simons the new band and music instructor. He outlined the year’s local music group plans and urged all parents to join and participate. A nominating committee of Mrs. Joe Peterson Mrs. John Coble and Mrs. Edrie Parks was appointed by Gearold Clawson president of the group.
The District Rural Entertainment Festival will be held in the Jefferson High School auditorium Monday October 6 at 7:30 p m Carroll County Rural Youth Chorus directed by Ken Pyle and the Democrat township Farm Bureau playlet directed by Mrs Alice Sledge will represent Carroll County in group acts Jane Ann Jones Monroe township and Jalene Joetta and Janet Joyce Washington township will represent Carroll County in the curtain act.
Rally Day observed at Radnor Methodist Church on Sunday October 12. Morning services begin at 10 30 a m a basket dinner is served at noon. Afternoon service at 1 30 p m with Rev Servers of the Rossville church as speaker. Carroll County Home Economics Chorus will perform. Public invited.
GOP rally planned at Flora Community Building next Wednesday night features speakers Phil Willkie and Senator Capehart. Al Stewart will perform several acts from Purdue with the meeting set for 8 p m.
Miss Betty Cramer music teacher in local grade schools returned Thursday after a six week tour of Europe. She traveled on the Queen and came home by plane.
Mr and Mrs Harry Casad of 1709 Everett Street Lafayette observe their golden wedding anniversary on Wednesday October 8. They were married October 8 1902 in Delphi by Rev E C Wells. The couple moved to Lafayette in 1925 and are parents of Donald Casad of Lafayette and Mrs E F Thornbrough of New Albany.
John Ayres 91 a retired farmer died Sunday evening at his daughter Mrs Esta Fosters Bringhurst home after several weeks bedridden Born June 29 1861 he was son of James and Ellen Ayres He married Emma Hamm in 1885 she died in 1936 Surviving daughters Esta Foster Maude Wood Minnie Ross and sons Elmer Basil L Ayres Ancil Ayres Funeral services were held Wednesday from Bringhurst church with Rev Arthur Schenck officiating Burial Maple Lawn Carter funeral home in charge
The last will of Clarence E. Jackson of Radnor was probated in Carroll circuit court. He provided for debts and left all property to his widow Evelyn Moore Jackson who was named executrix. The instrument dated July 11 1952 was witnessed by J E and Madge Bougher and Hanna and Hanna represent the executrix.
Mr and Mrs Max Holmes and family of Flora formerly of Delphi moved this week to Monticello. Holmes, long with Budrow Hardware in Flora, is named White County distributor for Pyrofax Gas and will run Holmes Gas and Appliance in the main business district.
Members of Harry Bohannon Post American Legion will attend the first stag supper of the fall on Monday night October 6. The meal is provided by an appointed committee and members should bring table service.
Delphi and Greencastle square off Saturday night at Crawfordsville High as the Oracle foes meet for the fourth time this season. Rochester beat Delphi 19 to 6, with Rochesters two long passes breaking a tight defensive duel.
Jim Ferrier son of Mrs. Jean Ferrier of Delphi has been chosen for the marching 100 at Indiana University. The pre med freshman will also join the varsity band and plays the tuba.
James Wehlage will spend Thursday and Friday in Terre Haute for an insurance meeting. Mrs. Wehlage will visit in Indianapolis during her husband's absence.
Mrs Tom McCain reports 21 pupils in her private Delphi kindergarten now in its third year. The class meets 1 to 3 15 daily at the McCain home and will add a morning session after Christmas. Ora Myer 72 night watchman at Pioneer Hybrid Seed Corn Company Flora fell into a corn bin while making rounds. Found by Flora police at 4 17 Tuesday morning after disappearing at 2 30 am. He suffered back and head injuries and was hospitalized near death. He is pastor of the Church of the Brethren and lives on route 1 Bringhurst.
The 16th annual District V convention of the Indiana Sunshine Society will be held at Camden High School on October 11. Russell F Handy of Angola will speak in the morning on Loyalty Tests. The afternoon features the Camden High School band concert and a novelty talk by Mrs. Gertrude Heckard of Burrows. Past Sunshine members in the county are invited.
Dr J M Haggard of Delphi, newly named field consultant for National Laboratories of Kansas City, spent three days in Fort Wayne attending Veterinary Commercial members meetings. Dr R C Julien spoke to veterinarians from Indiana Ohio Michigan and Illinois on the Future of Veterinary Commercial Products. Haggard and family moved from south Delphi to the Mrs Ethel Shaffer farm home and will remain in the community.
The first Carroll County Junior Land Judging contest will be held at the W. A. Huntsinger farm with tenant Carl Jester. Harold Berry announces the event sponsored by the Carroll County Soil Conservation District and supervised by Vocational Agriculture teachers and SCS staff. Contestants judge land on color texture depth drainage air movement slope erosion capability and suggested cropping practices.
About 100 water works officials from northwest Indiana will gather in Delphi on Thursday for their fall convention. Mayor Charles A. Wood will welcome attendees, who will attend a luncheon at the Masonic Temple and hold meetings throughout the day at the REMC auditorium.
Leroy Skinner and three Lafayette schoolmates will debate on WBAA next Thursday at 11 a m. They discuss whether public funds should assist exceptional students to attend college. Robert Jerry, their speech instructor, accompanies Skinner to Lafayette.

The Flora Bible Observance will feature Rev. Frank Templin of Indianapolis as principal speaker on Friday October 3 at 7 30 pm at the Flora Methodist Church The event promotes the Revised Standard Version of the Holy Bible with inter church meetings nationwide and local planning by the Flora Ministerial Association Indiana Council of Churches and National Council of Churches of Christ in the U S A Funds raised support Bible teaching for local schoolchildren and the observance highlights new translations and liturgical events.
Delphi narrowly loses to Royal Center 28 to 27 as Don Harshman races to a Delphi 2 mile record of 10 24. Dick Bailey paced him to the finish, with RC runners filling the top spots and Delphi missing its No. 2 and No. 3 runners.
Mrs. Dean Rice of near Colburn shares a clipping about Clayton A. Davies and his wife celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary with a surprise reception. The event, planned by relatives and neighbors, drew over 60 guests, featured a three tier cake, punch and coffee, and many gifts including a silver tree with silver dollars.
Carroll County Extension committee met September 25 and chose Extension Schools for January February and March. Harold R. Berry County Agent announced planned programs covering Beef and Swine, Dairy Caravan, Garden and Insect, Poultry, Outlook, Tax and Record, and Agronomy. A livestock breeders association was set to form with a meeting at the Extension office October 21 at 7 30 p m.
Vera M Gilbert named administratrix of the estate of her father David F Sink. The estate value lists $2500 in personal property. Hanna and Hanna act as attorneys for the administratrix.

The annual Penny Supper will be held Wednesday evening October 22 from 5 to 8 p m at the Camden Lutheran Church.
The Pilgrim Holiness church youth sponsor a singspiration Friday October 3 at 7 30 p m at Lafayette church. Purdue University student Jim Strader will direct with trumpet and oboe and perform songs. Rev Floyd Gookins and family will sing. Miss Marjorie Johnson of Frankfort Pilgrim College and the college trio will participate. Local talent joins for an enjoyable program inviting all to attend.
Mrs Elsie Peterson of Adams township sustained a neck injury in a two car crash Sunday near the George Peterson corner. She is in St Elizabeth hospital Lafayette in traction but improving. Her granddaughter sustained head cuts but was not hospitalized. Mrs Peterson mother of Mrs Ralph Gerbens of Delphi.
Ed Ferling of Zenith Washington age 79 a native of this county died Sunday at his home Details of his death are not learned He was born near Frankfort resided in Sharp Point before moving to Washington He was married to Minnie Holmes who survives with brother Fred Ferling of Delphi Will Holmes of Delphi is a brother in law Funeral rites and burial are scheduled today in Zenith
The September Term jury trial is scheduled for Monday October 6. Glenn Weckerly and Nada Weckerly sue Florence Harris with Special Judge W Douglas Elwood presiding. Attorneys Hanna Hanna represent the plaintiffs and George W Obear represents the defendant.
Mr and Mrs Frank Rees departed Monday to spend the winter months in Long Beach California with plans to enjoy milder weather and take part in local activities during the season.

Twenty eight Carroll County farmers joined Purdue marketing specialist Jim Shute and County Agent Harold Berry on a bus trip to Chicago on Tuesday September 23. They toured the Chicago Board of Trade observing grain grading trading pits and cash grain activity and visited a metal mill processing plant to see a large receiving terminal and cereal flour production. The group included Lee Flora Charles Truman Plank Pat Million Mrs Kenny Newell and many others.
A District Recreation Institute will be held at the REMC auditorium Monday November 20 in the afternoon and evening with three sessions on social recreation informal dramatics music and crafts. Harold All county organizations are invited to send delegates for this training.
