June 1 Deadline for 1956 Wheat Acre Allotment
A June 1 deadline affects farmers nationwide. Charles Carson, chairman of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation committee, notes that land not seeded to wheat in 1953 54 or 55 may qualify for a 1956 allotment. applications must be written to the ASC. Forms are available in the Delphi office on East Franklin Street. Local Priest To Assume Duties In Anderson Church
Father Francis Kienly, longtime pastor of St. Josephs in Delphi, will leave June 1 to oversee St Marys church and its grade and high schools in Anderson. New IU Dean Shaffer a Delphi native named Indiana University dean
Robert H. Shaffer, Delphi native and 39 year old authority on student personnel, named Dean of Students at Indiana University Bloomington. He succeeds Col. R. Shoemaker and has served since 1941 as professor of Business Education and student guidance. Shaffer, past president of the American Personnel and Guidance Association, graduated from DePauw University. He is son of the late Mrs Bessie Shaffer of Delphi. Meanwhile Mrs Earl Page recovers at home after a severe lawn mower accident followed by local preparations for summer events, a beard contest with two prize divisions, a $1 membership fee for the Brothers of the Brush, and a $2 permit option for clean-shaven participants to avoid a Kangaroo Court. The Centennial parade features a steer leading the procession from Rensselaer to Delphi, with an honor guard from the National Guard, ending in an ice cream social and street dance.
