The column highlights Col A B Cranton’s 90th birthday celebration with local friends, mushroom finds by area residents, upcoming graduation on the 22nd, Pancake Day plans, and spring cleanup around town. It also notes Delphi Community High School’s North Central Association accreditation status and suggests future building needs, plus a golf hole-in-one and social items from Logansport.
The public is invited to an Open House at New Hope School at 8 o'clock Tuesday evening May 10. The program features the New Hope beginners' band directed by W Theodore Jones with arrangements by Mrs Hope McCain.
Approximately 315 FFA and 4 H members competed in the district agriculture judging contest at the Delphi City Building with registrations, tabulation, and contests in poultry, crops, forestry, and entomology. Carroll County teams won forestry and poultry honors while Cass and Montgomery counties led others. Dale Kasten and W S Weaver chaired the event.
City Council opened in regular session with the first reading of Ordinance No 366 prohibiting disposal of junked or unoperable vehicles. It sets five days to remove on public property and fifteen days on private property with final passage anticipated at the next meeting.
The Carroll County Sesquicentennial Committee sells Indiana Sesquicentennial booster plates for one dollar to fund local projects. Plates are sold by committee members and several area businesses including Orville Shulther’s store in Plymouth, Stephan’s IGA Flora, Russell Rockhill’s in Yeoman, Flora Auto Supply, Dennis McCouch and the Boys’ Club in Camden, and shops in Delphi.
About 200 parents relatives and friends attended the May 1 graduation at Delph i Community High School Auditorium for Mrs Brookbank memory lane kindergarten. Ned David and Philip Brookbank led stage and makeup while Mrs Wood and Mrs Bowman assisted at the reception.
Tri Kappa’s sixth Bridge-A-Rama crowned top couple Tom Ives and spouse with 37 640 points. Runners up were David Hanna and his partner with 35 920, third place went to William Kerlin and Ralph Sullivan with 34 630, and fourth to Byram Crosby and Robert Wood with 34 590. Group winners include Wood with partner, John Walker pair, and several other pairings. A seventh tournament is planned to start in September.
Hickory Grove Church hosts a Mother-Daughter Banquet on Monday May 9 at 7 PM with a carry-in supper. All church friends are urged to attend with their daughters. Mrs. Ray Hawkins will share Jamaica trip pictures.
The First Presbyterian Church of Delphi announces its Vacation Church School from May 31 to June 10. Teachers and room assignments are listed with departments for ages 4 to 6th grade, plus a special 7th and 8th grade program. Classes run weekdays 9 to 11 15 a m at East Main Street church with the theme The Church and daily activities, stories, crafts, worship, and refreshments provided. The program is open to all local children.
Wayne Eikenberry former Delphi School superintendent resigns from Croft Educational Research and accepts a project writer role at Britannica Educational Inc. He will implement Encyclopedia Britannica Compton's and other materials across an eleven state territory including Illinois Wisconsin Minnesota North and South Dakota Iowa Kansas Nebraska Missouri Oklahoma and Arkansas. He is in Washington DC for training and will travel to Portland Oregon for further training next week.
The Peters Revington Manufacturing Company of Delphi announces an expanded vacation plan for employees. Tom Peters and George Revington say the move follows policy to revise benefits and enhance already extensive perks, resulting in a substantially longer vacation period for all staff.
The display shows books with faded inscriptions from Jerry Boone Samuel Wingert and Perry Wilson. Notable items include The True and Blessed Way 1816, New Testament and Psalms 1851, and Marvelous Wonders of the Polar World. A hair lock and 毛Dr Hebra’s Viola Cream ad appear amid a 1881 issue. William Whistler’s disinterment noted near Delphi.
A marriage license is issued to Ralph David Walker age 18 of route 1 Rossville and Pamela Lynn Hunt age 16 of Delphi.
The Delphi Relays saw heavy rain as teams competed in A B and C divisions. Merrillville led A division with 44 points while Jeff and South Side tied for second and third with 39 14 points. Muncie Burris topped B with 62 points and Delphi followed with 44. Kentland won C with 51 14 to 47. Oracle performances included a sprint medley win and multiple top finishes before Delphi was disqualified in the shuttle hurdle for a Gun.
Tom Billings president of Carroll County Young Democrats joins the Indiana delegation led by John Ruby at the Young Democratic Clubs of America National Committee meeting and Campaign Conference in Washington D C.
In a light turnout 3444 per cent of Carroll County registered voters cast ballots to nominate Fall candidates and elect precinct committeemen and delegates. Democratic results include McFadden leading for Congress with 890 votes, Wagoner beating Howell for County Auditor, and multiple township and school board races. Republican winners include Mertz and Burrows for Joint Representative and Groninger for County Commissioner.
West Lafayette led the Hoosier Conference Track Meet with 79 points. Oracle and Winamac tied for second, followed by Carroll At tica Clinton Prairie Rossville, Southwestern did not participate. Russell of West Lafayette set a new mile record 4 31.6, surpassing 4 32.4.
Camden boosters planted 18 trees in Camden Park from April 21 to April 25 to replace trees lost in storms. Dean George with a back hoe and Carl Yerkes with Charlie Johnson using tractors led the effort joined by Cecil Wallace Robert Yerkes Kenneth Wertz and Wayne Chapman. The Camden Community Club led by James R Sullivan plans further tree replacement townwide and hosts the annual Smelt Fry on June 4 with open meetings on Doctors' Building issues the second and fourth Wednesday each month.
Wayne Talbert and his mother Mrs. Esther Talbert joined relatives from Kokomo and Russiaville on Monday to Pocahontas Virginia. They attended the Wednesday funeral for Florence Hawkins aunt to Wayne and Harold Talbert. Hawkins was killed in a New York City crash Saturday afternoon. A daughter-in-law was injured in the same crash and is now recovering.
A nationwide call to donate blood runs four times a minute. The Delphi REMC hosts a drive on May 16 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. urging volunteers to give at the event location.
Officers for the 1966 67 school year will be elected at a meeting of the School and Home Association of the Delphi Community Schools at the high school auditorium Monday evening May 9 at 7 30.
AFS sponsored Pancake Day will be held Saturday May 7 from 6 am to 7 pm on the City Building lawn. Aunt Jemima pancakes sausage and coffee will be served by AFS members and Delphi Community High School faculty to raise funds for a foreign student to attend Delphi next year. The project, now five years running, funds students to study abroad and share American life with Delphi pupils.
