Fourteen Carroll County schools prepared for the county spelling meet to be held Saturday at the local school. Awards will go to first second and third in seven divisions with gold silver and bronze medals. The event begins at 10 a.m. with judges and a pronouncer for each division and Nor mean K. Knaub in charge of arrangements.
The second annual planting and landscaping day at Pittsburg school yard will be held on April 4 and 5, sponsored by the Tippe canoe township H. E. club. Professor Hull of Purdue will assist in selecting native shrubs and trees. Men should arrive at 8 a.m. with tools. a cooperative noon dinner is planned. A public meeting and lecture will be held Wednesday evening at the school building.
Winners of the Delphi elimination spelling contest who will represent the grade in the annual county contest on Saturday are Marjorie McCain Florence Bowman Caroline Charity and Freda Sines, alternate.
At a Monday meeting at Mrs. Fred Craven Smith home the Art and Garden department chairmen chose May 9 for the Woman's Club May meeting and flower show sponsored by the department.
The Rev. Benjamin Rist will address the annual tuberculosis association gathering at the Claypool hotel in Indianapolis on April 17.
Charles Flora John Harvey Todd and Leroy Wade, county corn hog tabulators, were among the first five sets in the state to finish the preliminary summary of all contracts. Mrs Walter George of near Camden is seriously ill.
Delphi night classes at the school cottage wrap up their ninth week tomorrow night. Attendance is unusually good, Superintendent McCain reports. New students may enroll at any time, McCain says.

Bobby Blake of Delphi, Golden Gloves champion, won the last bout of a thirty card by Promoter Joseph Blake, edging Lester Douglass of Crawfordsville in a close three round decision. More than 200 local fans attended as Logansport entrants disappointed, two quitting before their bouts.
Investigation into the city armory robbery remains stalled with officials reporting the thieves as elusive. No suspects or leads are currently identified as investigators press for fresh clues.
L Hanna, a Delphi attorney and third Democratic candidate for judge of the 74th circuit, entered the race while investigators examined a burglary case. State Patrolmen Paul Rule and Wayne Timmons assisted in the probe as detectives sought Fraser primes and the intruder who opened a locked safe without the combination.
Mr. Hanna, a seasoned lawyer with 37 years’ practice, will speak at the district meeting on April 4. He studied at Indiana law schools and universities, read law with notable Indiana attorneys, and earlier worked as a teacher before joining the Hanna and Hall firm.
Tobias Schmitterer 83 died at his Deer Creek township home after an extended illness. He was a lifelong resident. The body was taken to Grimm funeral home. He leaves four sons Peter Detroit Nicholas Goodland Frank Delphi William Delphi and three daughters Mary Wheitzel Zionsville Barbara Beck Delphi and Anna Nagel Lowell. Funeral services will be Monday at St Joseph Catholic church Delphi. Interment in the Catholic cemetery.
The Northern Indiana Public Service Co. has cut electric rates in Delphi and Camden by ten percent following Public Service Commission hearings. The move saves Delphi about 1445 and Camden about 998, totaling roughly 1500 for local patrons as part of a 17 000 statewide reduction in 23 cities and towns.
The Methodist church youth present a musical program this evening titled The Builders of the Cross. A special chorus will sing with Miss Rowene Keim and Miss Ruth Sanderson featured. A quartet of Miss Kathryn McCain, Miss Martha Goch enour, and Miss Alta Kite performs. L. D. Hoshaw will read the text and Mrs. Wilbur Day directs.
Joseph W. Snyder of Burlington township announces candidacy for township trustee on the Democratic ticket. A Burlington school graduate and longtime resident, he remains active in school affairs as a patron and community supporter.

Rev. H. Hugo is called to Oxford Indiana to preside over the funeral of Russell Wells one of two Lafayette shooting victims. Wells is laid to rest as his wife remains an invalid patient in St Elizabeth hospital Lafayette.
State election board rules require candidates to register under the 1933 law before filing for office. The ruling will compel several candidates who filed notices prior to registering to refile. All primary candidates must complete registration on or before April 7.
Announcement states Fred Wheeler manager of the Delphi Motor Sales has moved the business to the former Boyd- Martin Boat Company building on state Road 39. Wheeler has led the dealership for five years and plans to open Monday with a staff of skilled mechanics.
The Tri Kappas sponsor a card party at Delphi Armory on April 8 with a style show of spring and summer fashions at 10 p.m. Mrs. Lee Shaffer will present the show featuring models Mesdames Cartwright Cartwright Martin Roach Gocenour Davidson Squires Bradshaw Smock and Misses Caxney Kramer Hargraves Brewer Coble Fite. Delphi schools head to spring vacation April 5 and 6.
County Superintendent George Mc Cain calls meetings of prospective primary students to be held this week and next across county school buildings. Mrs Esther Gregg, county health supervisor, will conduct physical examinations.
Robert and Barbara Black children of Ernest Black of Ockley are taken to Riley Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment.
Eddie Koontz, who joined the navy a few months ago, is home on a short furlough. He will report back for duty on April 5 and be assigned to a boat headed for the west coast or China. Koontz recently was high scorer on the rifle range in Norfolk Virginia.
Carroll county plans to reduce corn production by about 11 502 acres through the Corn Hog Adjustment Plan. Hog production is trimmed by 25 percent, about 24 000 hogs. Township appraisal work is over half complete and set for finalization in three days. County and state officials prepare contract adjustments for submission by April 15.
Democratic candidates filed for county offices ahead of Republicans amid district races. Names include John L. Hanna for judge Samuel Dyer for county surveyor Robert Johnson for treasurer Charles E. State engineers this morning are surveying routes for the new state road through Delphi. Indications are that the road will run along Washing ton and out Franklin street. A two to four foot fill will be made on the West end of Franklin street for protection against high water.
