Tri Kappa hosts its Evergreen Ball and readers are invited to enjoy the holiday season. Lions Club drives collect old eyeglasses for eye clinics while Mrs Santa and Santa visit stores. Community events include a Christmas concert and a Messiah performance. Carroll County population notes and a birth announce the Crapse family Grandchildren total reaches ten.
Mrs. Don Willy, Carroll County chairman for gifts for mental patients at Logansport State Hospital, announced that donations are extended to Sunday December 11. Delphi Community Schools provide robes for the Messiah concert directed by Sandra Hertling with Imogene Schwanke on organ and Ruby Eikenberry on piano. The 1741 oratorio, first performed in Dublin, features Ann Abbott and Mary Helen Abbott in soprano roles, Morris Buck and others in solo parts, and a full chorus with tenor and bass ranks.
Charles Bryan announces Dan Hizer has joined Delphi Lumber Company as assistant manager. Hizer will train in business and management aspects and assist Delphi and the surrounding area. He is from Carroll County and a Camden High School and Ball State University graduate. He lives with wife Shirley and two children at 723 Prince William Road Delphi.
Cub Scout Pack 3165 sponsored by the Delphi Lions Club will meet Tuesday December 20 at 7 30 p m in the National Guard Armory for a Christmas gathering. Most Delphi stores will be open Wednesday and Saturday evenings and every night the week before Christmas.
A marriage license was issued to Jackie Ray Dillman 24 of Delphi rural route and Martina J. Reuzenaar 24 of Lafayette.
In a regular meeting the City Council authorized advertising for 1967 gasoline bids. Mrs. Robert Sieber was reappointed to the Library Board.
Starting December 8 Mrs. Roskuski will take calls at the Chandler office for naming families in need. A Carroll Telephone Company phone is provided at 42806. Hours are 1-4 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, 8:30-11:30 a.m. other days. Contributions may be sent to Christmas Clearing Office box 216 or 215 South Market Street. Needs include baby clothing blankets and all sizes of clothing and bedding. All items must be clean and in by December 20.
Indiana marks the end of the Sesquicentennial with December 11 listed as the official statehood day. Carroll County ministers were notified of observances as "Spotlight 150" closed the year. The Lafayette Civic Theatre staged scenes and plays about Indiana theatre history at Delphi High School Auditorium.
Mrs Maurice Fairchild underwent surgery at Home Hospital on Wednesday morning.
The Delphi Methodist Church parsonage will be dedicated Sunday at 3 PM with Rev. J J Bailey of Lafayette District presiding. Assisting are Rev. Robert Wilburn and Rev. David Abel, plus church members. Open house to 5 PM. Woman's Society helpers will assist.
Mrs. Laura Tracht, a Delphi native now living in Florida, will turn 98 on Sunday December 18. A former owner of the Delphi Greenhouse, she remains active among exotic blooms at her daughter Gail Knodle’s home in Fort Myers.
The Carroll County Plan Commission will meet at Carroll High School on Thursday December 8 at 7 30 p m with town plan commissions and others to discuss forming an area plan commission. Delphi and Flora would be dissolved. John Peterson invites the public. Mr Wolfe from the state organization will answer questions.
Judge William B. Smith announced the annual Carroll County Grand Jury will convene Thursday December 15 at 9 am in the court room.
Union Bank and Trust Company of Delphi will affiliate with Town and Country Charge Plan, the Midwest’s largest bank sponsored program. Cards enable purchases at affiliated stores with no membership fee if paid within 25 days. longer terms carry a charge. Card slips are sent to a central computer with monthly statements.
Delphi Oracles opened with an 80-69 win over Southwestern Wildcats led by Mike Emmons 27 points. They fell 61-56 to Clinton Central as Emmons scored 16 and Collins 15, while free throws carried the hosts with 78 percent accuracy.
William Houston Lybrook 80 of Delphi died Wednesday at Veterans Hospital Indianapolis after a two day stay. Born August 26 1886 in Cass County he was son of David and Rebecca Lybrook. Survived by wife Cora Marie Ghere son Charles three daughters Whitt Brooks Whitman Draper one brother Frank three sisters Brookbank Espey Beck and 16 grandchildren. Services pending at Jackson Funeral Home Delphi.
