Flora tavern card games may be banned order lifted eyed
The Flora town Board plans to meet tonight to discuss rescinding a recent order banning card playing in a local tavern after residents and farmers protested for over 40 years. The meeting, postponed from Monday, will air the issue fully. Two Carroll County couples plan a 10 day all expenses paid trip to Spain and Portugal leaving New York January 6. Wayne Talbert and Ed Esserman earned travel prizes in a Firestone contest for themselves and their wives. The trip includes Spain and Portugal. In Delphi two hunters found what looked like graves. investigators later found the sites to be a latrine and a garbage disposal from a National Guard encampment, not graves. A unsigned note questions whether townspeople help women with car troubles on Main Street. Tenants in two business rooms were ordered by the State Fire Marshal to vacate within 30 days for fire hazard. Howard May may join classes from bed as a special hearing setup will link his home to Delphi classrooms with 80 percent state funding and 20 percent by the polio group. The United Brethren and Methodist teams will play at the Delphi Presbyterian church as an example of universal brotherhood in dart ball. Doxie Moore, a Delphi native and administrative aide to Governor Craig, will be replaced under Governor-Elect Harold Handley. Official appointment soon expected for Ruby Thompson Trent as deputy county clerk.

Dr Lloyd Carter 67 longtime Bringhurst dentist and county resident died Tuesday night after weeks in Kennedy nursing home following a stroke in August. Born May 30 1889 in Howard County he was survived by his widow five children and brothers Paul and Emerson with burial at Maple Lawn Cemetery after private funeral rites at 2 p m Friday at Carter funeral home officiated by Rev Walter Curtis.

Radabaugh pastor of the Delphi Lutheran parish will leave Saturday to be a missioner for a week of services in the Fort Wayne area as part of a national Evangelism program begun by the United Lutheran Church of America in 1955. The Carroll County License branch in Delphi will be closed all day Friday while furniture is moved into a larger room at the Building and Loan building. The license bureau will relocate to rooms at the rear of the Building and Loan, which will occupy the former License Bureau space.

At the Tuesday meeting the Carroll County Commissioners awarded bituminous materials for the county highway department to Smith Construction Company of Flora with Mohr and Fauber as other bidders. John William Sanders formerly of Young America and later of Camden was arraigned in Carroll circuit court on vehicle taking. He received 1 to 10 years at the Indiana State Reformatory and a five year disfranchisement. Wayne Mocherman of Flora was arraigned for public intoxication and fined ten dollars plus costs.
