City Street Top Dressing Hits Delphi Era Paved with Bitulithic
The Delphi city council approved bitulithic paving around the public square and along Main and Franklin streets in 1905. C A Stevens of Boston, supervising for Warren Bros, reports rapid progress with finish targeted by tomorrow. Councils, lawsuits, and debates over cement versus bitulithic are recalled, noting the pavement’s twenty two year resilience and resurfacing history. The project, contracted to Western Construction Co of Lafayette at $1.91 per sq yd, faced injunction attempts by asphalt interests but proceeded with city support.
