Wayne Coy, director of the state welfare program, said the new old age pension system will be ready in May with about 40 000 recipients. Each pensioner will get a new signed form and return it within 30 days or payments stop. The maximum pension under the new law is 30 dollars per month and payments depend on individual need. County departments must avoid fixed amounts for all recipients and assess each case individually.

Three Fires Damage Property In Delphi
Fires damaged homes and railway structures in Delphi. The Charles Larimore residence on Union Street burned Friday morning, with the Larimore family newly moved from the flooded area suffering losses. Earlier, a fire at Alan Trussler’s house near the school occurred at 7:30 Monday, causing minor damage. On Sunday, a blaze under the Monon railroad bridge along the Wabash river ignited under the bridge, burning ties on the track until chemicals and replacements halted the fire.

Grain thief leaves corn and bad check as trail markers
Oliver Bush of near Logansport was arrested on a driving while intoxicated charge after 80 bushels of corn were stolen from Goldie Sink’s farm in Cass county and sold at the Kerlin elevator in Delphi. Bush confessed Sunday night and had spent prior time for grain theft. A $22.50 check given at the Berlin elevator was cashed by Lawrence Margowski and Bush had disposed of the money before arrest.
