A county Democrats committee met at Ute Blue’s Flora home to outline a May 2 banquet in the Flora Community Building. A 50 cent dinner at 6:30 will precede the program with all state district and county candidates invited. Tickets sold by township committees, open to all voters.
Indiana observes Arbor Day on Friday April 18 with tree and shrub planting statewide. The third annual White County banquet will be held in Monticello new school auditorium on Thursday evening April 17. Captain Albert Stump of Indianapolis will be principal speaker along with Henry Barnham former congressman and Mrs. Jas M. Riggs. A musical program and other speakers are planned. About four hundred Democrats from White and nearby counties expected. Reservations to Lawrence Corey Monticello Indiana. Tickets one dollar.
The Chamber of Commerce held a meeting with all members present. W. H. Bradshaw announced Dean Smith as the permanent secretary to handle major duties while Mr. Pletcher steps back. A banquet committee and industrial committee were formed, and future membership and rotating committee plans were outlined.
Mrs Mary Ezra died Wednesday April 9 at her sister Mrs John Hall's home in this city. She had served as housekeeper at the Fred Engle residence for twenty years. Survived by her sister and several nephews and nieces. Funeral services conducted Friday afternoon at 2 at the Baptist church with Rev Pitman officiating.
A play sponsored by the Parent Teachers' club is set for Friday April 25. Proceeds support school activities and student programs.
The largest audience yet for a Delphi class play watched the senior production Wives to Burn at the High School auditorium. Directed by Miss Caffyn and McCarty, the boarding house farce told of John Ives, a bank clerk in love with Sylvia, and a $300000 gift tied to marrying a 300 pound woman within a day. Cast included John Best, Wm Raines, Herbert Leonhardt, and Agnes Thomas with a chorus of high school girls delivering songs and dance.
Prof. G. I. Christie, director of the genoe at Purdue University, was to speak on Thursday at a dedication ceremony announced by County Agent H. B. Ackerson. The event focused on the dedication of a new project or facility associated with the Purdue agricultural or genoe program.
A bungalow on the Robert Casad farm southeast was destroyed by a large fire reported to have begun around midnight Wednesday. Only a few pieces of furniture and belongings were saved from the lower floor as flames consumed the second floor and higher sections.
Forty seven women attended the second monthly meeting of the County Home Economics Clubs studying the Millinery Project led by Miss Nellie Finningham of Purdue University. Carroll County is one of two counties with complete township representation. A county organization was formed with Mrs. Edw. Blythe elected County Chairman and Mrs. Roy Richter assigned to publicity duties. The next meeting is scheduled for May.
Milton Douglas Swatts, longtime Delphi mechanic and machine shop operator, died in Lafayette last Thursday, April 19, after months of illness. He was born February 4, 1858, in Deer Creek Prairie, son of Lewis and Lucinda Swatts, married Mattie Keist in 1884, then Inez Giger, and left two children, Dora Spencer and Emerson Swatts, plus a granddaughter Ellen Lois Spencer. Funeral Friday at 2:30 PM at the Methodist church with burial in the I C O F cemetery. Rev Kimberling presided.
Gale Leslie of Camden was fatally injured Saturday when lumber fell from a truck and tractor, pinning him between lumber and the steering wheel. He died at St. Joseph's Hospital Tuesday morning. Funeral held at Camden M. E. church with interment in Len Cemetery.

Miss Blanche Calvert of Madison Township announces as Democrat candidate for recorder. A graduate of the Indiana State Normal, she taught twelve terms in Carroll County and six in Delphi, and has been active in precinct politics and war drives. The other candidate is Mrs Ruth Jones Mills of Jefferson Township.
Senator Joseph Cravens announced he will be in Flora to speak on Saturday evening April 19. The meeting place has not been announced.
