Bands orchestras and choirs from 32 northern Indiana counties gather Saturday April 19 in Valparaiso for the state contest. Organizers Paul Welker John Curry and Wayne Enberry expect about 4500 participants with Valparaiso University officials arriving Friday to finalize plans.
Mrs. L B Porter donates a maroon heavy silk pulpit scarf and a gold trimmed communion table cover as a memorial to her husband. A lower grade pupil misleads the principal with a joke about his stomach ache and a noon ride home.
Mr and Mrs Robert Austin formerly resided in the Clarence Cole apartment on West Front Street and have relocated to a newly pured home in Lafayette.
Judge and Mrs William B Smith announce the engagement of their daughter Julie to Kenneth Pyle of Delphi son of Clarence and Mrs Pyle of Marshall Indiana They plan to wed August 3 Julie a Delphi High School graduate and student nurse at Methodist Hospital Indianapolis is soloist for the Student Nurse Choir Pyle a Marshall High School and Earlham College graduate attended Purdue and was in Alpha Zeta and Tau Beta Pi now a technician for the Carroll County Soil District
The council voted to reimburse the Chamber of Commerce 3300 for buying bottom lands along Deer Creek for Deer Creek park and extra parking and carnivals. Indiana adjutant general Major General Hitchcock and aides discussed sharing armory facilities with the school. two overhead doors were purchased for the fire department using Aviation Fund money.
Gene Lahr of Attica took over the Delphi Chrysler and Plymouth garage from Fred Clawson with the sale effective April 1. Lahr, a former manager of Tipton Motors in Attica, will assume active management on East Main Street. He plans to move to Delphi once housing is found. Clawson has not revealed future plans.
Judgments totaling 23700 have been entered against J Ray Browne of Jefferson township. The U S District Court of Northern Indiana at South Bend heard Frederic A Chandler vs Browne, awarding damages to the plaintiff and to his wife killed in the auto accident involving the two cars.
Robert Bordner and Mary Catherine Carter qualified as co administrators with the will annexed in the estate of their father William H Bordner. The estate lists 6000 dollars in personal property and 25000 dollars in real property. Wilbur Lane represents the co executors.
Robert Hall owner of Hall's IGA Super Market has begun adding parking facilities. Trees east of the store were cut down and the area from Franklin street to the rear alley will be paved.
Delphi city schools dismissed Wednesday afternoon for Easter or Spring vacation. Classes resume Tuesday morning April 15.
Carroll County petit jury summoned for Monday April 14 to hear the case of Charles Vaughan plaintiff attorney from Lafayette seeking to recover fees for representing Warren North in a divorce action.
Carroll County Commissioners advertise a contract for a new jail residence and to remodel the present jail. Eight ladies petitioned against razing the jail, asking remodel of the old residence. Commissioners vote to proceed with the new residence plan and approve related road and site inspections.
Eddie Carrison and Norman Rodgers of Delphi FFA were honored at the State Convention at Purdue with the Hoosier Farmer degree the highest FFA award. The Delphi chapter won second in the State Safety contest earning $25 and received $10 in the Chapter contest. Attending with adviser W. S. Weaver were Carr Rodgers Bob Duff and Bill Lang.
Rotary club members heard Tommy Johnston publicity director of Purdue describe a seven month Italy assignment. He helped the government set up a publicity and promotion service for farm agencies and shared insights from the experience at the Country Club noon luncheon Tuesday.
Walter B. Conn of Delphi has been appointed court bailiff by Judge William B. Smith. Conn assumed duties Monday after Ralph Harrison resigned due to ill health.
The Union Bank and Trust Co announces a legal holiday on Friday April 11 and will be closed for business. Bank offices will observe the day in accordance with the holiday schedule.
About 100 community members were named for the Minstrel Jubilee to be staged May 1 2 3 as a joint production by Tri Kappa and Psi Iota Xi. Directors Mrs Howard Bradshaw and Mrs Marilyn Holloway Smith met cast last Thursday. rehearsals began Monday.
Keith D. Johns awarded a divorce from Betty J. Johns on charges of cruel and inhuman treatment. Betty J. Brant restored as maiden name. Dorothy McCain granted divorce from Charles P. McCain with Dorothy Gipson restored as maiden name. Floyd J. Julien appeared for the state in the first case.
The Tri-Township fire department was called to the George Anderson home Wednesday afternoon when a grass fire threatened nearby structures.

The event on April 24 features a 9 30 a m general session with speaker DeBault personal manager of Egyptian Lacquer Co Lafayette. Afternoon sessions include educators personnel directors and professionals guiding nursing military service homemaking college careers small business law medicine and teaching with Purdue IU and local officials assisting.
Ada Roach county auditor reported this week receipt of 898671.58 from the State Auditor as the county’s share of the first quarterly gas tax distribution. The amount tops last year’s first quarter payment by a small margin.

In Carroll Circuit Court Judge William B Smith found chiropractor Dr Russell W Henry of Lafayette guilty of contempt for practicing medicine in violation of a court order. He was fined 50 dollars plus costs.
Funeral rites for Fred Oyler 58 will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Carter funeral home Flora with Rev. C. R. Garland officiating. Burial in Whiteman cemetery Michigantown. Oyler ended his life by drinking strychnine solution early Tuesday morning. Born September 3, 1893 in Howard County he was son of John and Mary Oyler. Surviving are widow May Hillis two sons Bill of Elkhart and Lewis Oyler at home a daughter Carolyn Oyler of Tampa Florida and a sister Mrs Frank Taylor of Florida.
Mrs Joseph E Peterson was elected president of the Delphi Parent-Teacher Association for the next year. Officers include Mrs Robert Sieber first vice president Carl Mann second vice president Mrs Robert Landis secretary and Mrs Reed Weaver treasurer. The new officers will be installed at the May 7 meeting.
The annual RMD Oratorical and Reading contest will be held Thursday April 17 at 2:30 in Rensselaer. Dinty Johnson will present a humorous reading Linda Rule a dramatic reading and Jerry Crone an oration. The contest will precede the RMD track and field meet at Rensselaer.

Wayne Eikenberry accepted a new three year contract to head the local schools. Jo ane Curry and Clyde Moyer will return next year. New teaching posts go to Joyce Ghere and Catherine Shoemaker for 1952 53. The board discussed North Central Association surveys and June 1 1952 filing. Summer recreation starts mid June with Eikenberry in charge and city officials on the committee. Delph i Deer Creek district enrollment rises to 900 for 1952 53 with high school enrollment up to 370.
John Phillips starts duties as caretaker of the City Park in East Delphi succeeding Ed Ferrier. Verl Weaver continues as caretaker of Deer Creek Park, a role he has held for years.
Delphi resident Nicholas J. Schrader will observe his 84th birthday on Thursday April 17. He is described as in fair health and remains active in the community with family and neighbors nearby.
Delphi merchants and firms invite employees to attend a four morning sales clinic led by John C. Brickner of Indiana University. Sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce Jaycees and Delphi BPW club, the free sessions run May 12–15 at the REMC auditorium with two hourly slots each morning. Certificates will be awarded.
Mrs. Ralph Maggart of Delphi injured Wednesday morning when her 1951 Chevrolet and a milk truck driven by Henry A. Myers of Flora collided on highway 218 east of Camden at John Brown road. She was taken to St. Joseph hospital Logansport with a head cut and injuries to her right ankle and knee.
Mrs Ann Castrale of Delphi received a letter from her husband James Castrale announcing his promotion to Major. Major Castrale has served in Korea for over a year and expects rotation back to the United States in the near future.
