Carroll County Book Rental Association authorized

At a Tuesday meeting the Carroll County Board of Education approved the creation of the Carroll County Book Rental Association. Initially Rock Creek Liberty Madison townships will use the library via the county superintendent of schools to streamline book supplies and cut annual costs for Rockfield New Hope and Burrows schools.

Democratic delegate slate nearly complete for state convention

Democratic officials have eight of nine candidates filed for the district convention representing Washington and Carrollton. The remaining spot awaits a delegate for district 1. Lock Box Stolen From Delphi Doctor’s Home

Dr. C. W. Hunter reported a lock box missing from his Front Street home Sunday. The box held 30 dollars cash and valuable papers including deeds and insurance policies. Police noted the drawer was unlocked with its proper key and not damaged.

Cheer Club Picks Mrs Burford of Delphi as Member of the Week

The Delphi Lions selected Mrs. Burford as the Cheer Club member of the week. She is the mother of Mrs. A J Denk of Delphi and resides at the Denk home. Blind for nine years, she is 84, a retired teacher of 35 years, and has lived in town 15 years. The public may send cards or visit during her designated week.

Harley Reed and wife to observe 50th wedding anniversary

Mr and Mrs Harley Reed of 418 W Washington St Monticello will mark their 50th anniversary on April 7. Married in 1902 at Patton they spent most of their married life in Indianapolis where Reed served 25 years on the police force. An open house planned for the occasion has been postponed due to Mr Reeds illness.

Jaycees Sponsor Easter Egg Hunt at Delphi City Park

The Junior Chamber of Commerce sponsors a large Easter egg hunt for children 12 and under at Delphi City Park on Sunday April 13. Prizes include a golden egg first prize two second prizes for most eggs two third prizes for biggest eggs and theatre passes hidden in eggs. If rain occurs the event shifts to the Sunday after Easter.

April Term of Carroll Circuit Court Opens Next Week

The April term of the Carroll Circuit Court will begin Monday with Judge William B. Smith. Jurors were drawn by Jury Commissioners Frank Lybrook and Will S. Smith, listing dozens of veniremen from Deer Creek Monroe Tippecanoe Jackson Jefferson and surrounding townships for service during the term.

Series of Accidents In County Injures Local Girl

Sheriff Sparkey Carey reports a sequence of accidents this week in the county. A Tuesday noon three vehicle crash at Camden involved Lester M. Yost, Marie L. Henderson, and Forrest Kiibby with total damage $85. Preston J. Zills suffered a minor cut after a hit and run at Sycamore lane. Ramona Clem, 16, Delphi high school student, sustained leg injuries when her 1948 Chevrolet skidded on gravel on Prince William Road. Vehicle damage estimated at $500.

Short marriage ends after one day in Carroll court

Mrs. Fredia L. Kaufman of Flora filed for divorce from James W. Kaufman in Carroll circuit court claiming marriage began May 12, 1947 and ended May 13, 1947 with cruel and inhuman treatment. Hanna and Hanna represent the plaintiff.

Holy Week Plans from Delph i Churches

The Protestant churches of Delph i and nearby join hands for an Easter program under the Ministerial Association led by Rev. W. S. McLean. Six churches meet separately and together with candle light communion on Thursday April 10 at 7 30 p m and a Union Good Friday service Friday April 11 from 2 to 3 p m at the Baptist church.

Delphi Students Enter District Music Contest at Rensselaer

A total of 115 Delphi students from grades 8 through 12 will travel to Rensselaer for the District Music contest. The band numbers 67, the chorus 56, and all four groups have rehearsed four weeks for first division hopes. The event is directed by Paul Welker with guest conductor Lemuel Anderson, and Easter program events at local churches feature Dr. S Marion Smith and a cantata “The Man of Sorrows.”

Burlington Minister To Attend National Methodist Meeting

Rev. and Mrs. C Raleigh Garland to attend the General Conference of the Methodist church in San Francisco from April 23 to May 7. Garland will serve on the Committee on Ushers Pages and Badges. Octette Plans Spring Tour of Northern Schools

Delphi's octette will tour northern Indiana schools in late April. Paul Welker, local music director, says stops in multiple cities will be announced. The group travels east and north, will spend a night in Fort Wayne entertaining Tuberculosis Sanitorium patients, and will rehearse daily at 7 a.m. before school opens.

Delphi's track squad travels to Peru for a two team meet. Last Saturday the shuttle hurdles squad won first in their division at the Bloomington Relays and tied for third in the day’s best time.

Delphi Tri Kappa sorority presents its 24th annual Hoosier Salon art show at the Delphi Library on Sunday April 6 from 2 to 5 pm. Paul Quick III Hospitalized After Severe Heart Attack

Paul Quick III co-owner of the Quick and Clifford Clothing Store and vice president of the People's Building and Loan Association of Delphi was taken to St. Elizabeth hospital Lafayette after a severe heart attack Wednesday afternoon. He was conveyed by the Jackson ambulance.

Pittsburg Parents Organize New PTA in Tippe Town

Parents and teachers at Pittsburg school organized a new Parent-Teacher association. Officers were elected and a meeting on April 14 was set to decide state and county PTA affiliation. Lunch problems were discussed and a 25 cent lunch was proposed through April 14 with ongoing fundraising to avoid possible lunch suspension due to federal aid shortfalls.
