Local note recounts four Indianapolis men attempting an illegal scheme in Delphi undone by radio contact and pursuing officers. Two suspects captured. one fined $25 and costs for reckless driving after nearly hitting a pedestrian. The escapade features a chase, a fast car, and a wary escapee hiding at a Stone residence.
The Delphi Lions name Verd Thompson W of Front Street Delphi Indiana as the Cheer Club member of the week. Thompson, a longtime resident formerly of Rockfield and Camden, has been homebound for several weeks due to illness and Lions urge friends to send cards letters and small gifts.
Mayor Roy Clauser announced Delphi will again conduct a mosquito control program. About 1500 pounds of 5 percent granular Dieldrin will be spread in breeding areas around and in Delphi by airplane between April 12 and 18, weather permitting. Residents can help by punching holes in tin cans, changing water in bird baths weekly, screening rain barrels, stocking ponds with goldfish, avoiding standing water in tires or refuse, and spraying shrubs with DDT two to three times during the season. The application uses one pound of 50 percent wettable DDT in eight gallons of water.
The 17th annual Regional meeting of the West Central District of the Indiana State Conference of Social Work will be held Monday April 23 in the Purdue Memorial Union Building faculty lounge. Jerre J. Haugh of Delphi, a county welfare board member, helps organize. Participating counties include Benton Boone Carroll Cass Clinton Fountain Jasper Montgomery Newton Pulaski Tippecanoe Warren and White.
Approximately four hundred twenty five people attended the Carroll County REMC annual meeting at the Flora Community building last Thursday evening. One hundred eighty seven voting members re elected all previously nominated directors. A musical program by Musical Notes and Elmer Hinkle followed by prizes for Mrs. Ray Gish Charles Pope Mike Cunningham Leonard Yerkes Ralph Dyke Melvin Victor Bill Dickinson Lee Adkinson James Peterson and Don Brosman.

Delbert E. Tony of Frankfort, jailed for public intoxication, denied entering the Sutter garage during a burglary. Police found 14 keys and a screwdriver on him, later tied to the Saturday night break in. Tony, free on $2500 bond for Clinton County burglaries, claims two unnamed companions were with him. He remains in jail awaiting arraignment.
The Carroll County Scottish Rite club meets at the Camden Community building on April 12 with dinner at 6 30 p m. Wayne Guthrie of Indianapolis will speak and Delphi high school octet will provide music. Masons are invited and urged to reserve with listed club officers.
William Pete Jones of 717 16th Street Indianapolis was arraigned in JP Lee Stones court on a reckless driving charge. He was fined 25 dollars plus court costs.
Miss Laura Briggs editor of the Commonwealth Edison Company Publication in Chicago and Miss Mary Jo Arnold supervisor at Consumers' Research visited here for the weekend with Hal Manor and Mr and Mrs David R Baum.
Two men were knifed during a Saturday night street brawl at the Franklin and Washington corners in Delphi. John Henry Reynolds and Leonard Noe, both free on bond, face disorderly conduct charges as their case is set for Friday in city court. Noe sustained arm and stomach wounds. Reynolds also injured along with his estranged wife who was cut attempting to intervene. Police arrested Noe after Noe and Reynolds claimed they were in an auto accident. Reynolds was apprehended at his south Delphi home after being alerted by a roused officer.
The Oracles won 11 of 13 events to beat the Peru Tigers 75 percent to 33 percent in the first outdoor meet of the season at Peru Tuesday night. They host Sheridan Suns in a home meet at Riley Park Thursday at 4 p.m. Results include multiple event placements and times across sprints, jumps, hurdles, throws, and relays.
Max Daugherty's Regal Store in Pittsburg won the contract to furnish groceries for the County Home for April May and June as the Commissioners met in regular session on Monday.
Joseph E. Warren aged 36 of Delphi was arrested Tuesday evening on a warrant issued by his wife Vel da charging assault and battery. Arresting officers Chief Underhill and Patrolman Coghill reported he was released on bond.
Seven Lions Club presidents and secretaries from area clubs attended a zone dinner at the Delphinium cafe last Wednesday evening. Quarterly gatherings assist Lions clubs in activities with Lion Frank Wilcox as zone chairman presiding. local attendees included Robert Clawson Robert Quinn and Frank Fitch.
Carroll County and Health Association remind that 26 registered nurses will be in Carroll County schools Monday morning April 9 to apply patch tests for tuberculosis. Almost 100 percent response from parents is expected for children under school age. Beginning students will receive patch tests with their physicals by family physicians. Preschool children to be patch tested should be at school when classes start, as nurses will be in classrooms only a short time. Parents should accompany preschool children.
Mr and Mrs Donald Draper Sr Route 4 Delphi announce the engagement of their daughter Betty Jo to Joseph L Spitznagle Jr son of Mr and Mrs Joseph L Spitznagle Sr of Monitor. Betty Jo Draper a Delphi High School graduate and Psi Iota X and American Legion auxiliary member works as secretary to State Representative Mahlon Kerlin. Spitznagle, a Monitor High School graduate and Purdue attendee, is a Lafayette worker and World War II veteran and American Legion member. No wedding date.
Carl Hanna, a Jefferson township farmer, lost two fingers on his left hand Monday afternoon while loading a drill. The remaining fingers and hand were badly mangled. He received medical treatment and was sent home.
On Tuesday E Jean Funk filed suit in Carroll Circuit Court seeking five years of separation from her husband Robert Funk. She also requests custody of two minor sons Julien and Kerlin. The plaintiff and her husband operated local restaurants during the past year.
Carroll County voters face 11 contests at the May 8 primary from the presidential race to precinct committeemen. Democratic slate features Estes Kefauver for president and four congressional hopefuls including John H. Hamling. OtherDem candidates include Mullin vs Woodrum for treasurer and Wiles vs Road for commissioner. GOP fields oppose Eisenhower Daly, Hallock vs Skelton, Coad vs Bowen, Kerlin vs Langston, and other unopposed races for clerk surveyor and county officers.

Freeman Switzer has been employed by the trustees of the Delphi IOOF lodge as custodian of the IOOF building and club rooms. Switzer will also serve as caretaker of the IOOF cemeteries in Delphi and Pittsburg.
Otis Noe of Delphi was picked up Saturday night by City Police on charges of public intoxication. He was arraigned Sunday in JP Stone's court, fined $25.00 and costs.
Mr and Mrs Charles Davis Vaughan have moved from Tippecanoe township after 37 years to a newly built home on the late Emily W Guthries farm in Rock Creek township. Mr and Mrs Fred J Stewart and family will reside on the Vaughan farm.
Psi Iota Xi will present the Purdue Choraleers in concert on Wednesday evening April 25 at 7 30 p m in the Delphi high school auditorium. The group is directed by Bruce McGuire. Tickets cost 75 cents with preschool children admitted free. Members include Nancy Hall Delphi and Anita Douglass Flora.
A drive to establish a Little League franchise in the community for boys ages 8 to 12 has been sent to Little League headquarters in Williamsport Pa. A meeting at the high school auditorium last Wednesday named Leo C. Craig journal editor as president and outlined teams, sponsors, field plans for Hillcrest school, and calls for volunteers.
The first County Junior Leader meeting will be held at the Delphi REMC on Monday April 16 at 7 30 p m DST announced by Mrs June Fine county 4 H agent. About 200 boys and girls will enroll this year with leaders assigned to various duties and a program including pledges elections and group activities.
The last will of Myrtle Garrison probated Tuesday directs payment of debts and leaving clothing to the Salvation Army. The residue is to be converted to cash and given to Bringhurst Methodist church, with William J. Leiter named executor. Wilbur Lane handles both estates.
Seven of the county's 14 township trustees voted to hire Purdue University to conduct a survey in their townships for potential school consolidations and future needs. Purdue will begin in October, taking eight to nine months, at about $1 per pupil enrolled. The study will map likely sites and feasibility but final decisions rest with residents.
Three TB Health Association board members including co chairmen Mrs Bradshaw and Mrs Ratcliff and member Royce Kurtz will be interviewed on WFBM radio at 12 15 pm and WFBM TV at 1 pm Monday. They will discuss county wide tuberculin patch test program April 9 13 and chest x ray survey April 16 May 4. The program is sponsored with County Home Demonstration clubs American Legion Auxiliary Delphi Lions Club county nurses and the Medical Society.
Hobart High School choir comprising 48 students will give a concert at the high school auditorium on Friday morning April 13. Gene Simons, former music teacher, directs the choir. The group arrives in Delphi Thursday night and stays with local hosts after touring Valparaiso and Mantino Illinois before the performance at 8 15 a m.
Mr and Mrs Tom Smith relocate today from Mrs Mary Dixon Smith property on Water Street to residence on Washington Street owned by Steve Beja.
