County rejects bids and seeks bargains for contracts
County council rejected all bids for electrical work and elevator service on an emergency basis and considers new contracts to ensure competitive pricing. State Elevators topped the elevator bids at 18 840 after Elevators Sales and State Elevators had alternated contracts. Rite Way Electric held the prior electrical contract at 45 000, with only one bid received, prompting concerns over competition and contract rules.

Boyd Theater in Chester Sold to Firm. To Close as Movie House
The Boyd Art Theater at 8th and Welsh Streets in Chester shuts down after sale to a large firm not planning to run films. Universal Theaters president R. Saretsky says an agreement was reached and the theater will cease movie shows after a Thanksgiving weekend final screening. City officials had sought a family friendly alternative, but the buyer intends only to own the property. The theater, opened in 1934, previously faced obscenity actions and fire code issues while trading hands several times.
