Locust Grove Girl Scouts Massacre Probed at Camp Scott

Three Tulsa and Broken Arrow girls aged 8 to 10 were slain on the first night of a two week camping trip at Camp Scott near Locust Grove Oklahoma. Investigators described large footprints and a red flashlight found near the tent as key clues while examining fingerprints and other evidence. The camp has been closed off with a police post, autopsy shows sexual assault and strangulation, and services are scheduled for the victims in Tulsa and Broken Arrow.

Higher oil tax approved shapes Carter energy plan

The Ways and Means Committee approved President Carter's plan for higher oil taxes, signaling future decisions on revenue use. The panel expects gasoline to rise about seven cents a gallon in 1981 as it plans how to allocate multi billion dollar proceeds, with a rebate plan proposed to return revenues to consumers. Miller wins UMW president vote in second term bid

Arnold Miller appears to have secured a second term as president of the United Mine Workers. With more than half ballots counted, unofficial AP figures showed Miller leading Patterson and Patrick as voters in 25 states and Canada cast ballots. turnout reached about 46 percent of dues-paying miners and pensioners.

Library funds doubled debated by Pennsylvania House

Harrisburg AP reports the Pennsylvania House votes to double library funding but no major changes soon. The bill would allocate nothing per resident in each library service area, with state funding at 25 cents per resident totaling about 3.8 million dollars annually. The measure moves to the Senate after rejection of a similar bill last session. A prepared AP report notes the Senate Business and Commerce Committee unanimously tabled a bill that would let municipalities let voters decide in November on Sunday sales bans, with Sen Thomas Andrews warning the measure could hurt business in communities rejecting Sunday sales. The House previously signaled a repeal of Blue Laws amid debate on water projects funding.
